England Captain Andrew Strauss Confident ahead of Champions Trophy 2009
Following a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the hands of Australia in the recently concluded ODI series, England players have turned their sight on Champions Trophy 2009 that kicks off from 22 September. England captain Andrew Strauss is still hopeful that his team will bounce back in the tournament, putting its disastrous home experience aside.
The good thing is that England could avoid a seemingly whitewash following the Ashes triumph. With the 4-wicket victory, England has come out of the round of losses and can now go into the Champions trophy with some positives on their back. Spinner Graeme Swann got 5 wickets for 28, his career best, while opener Joe Denly and Straus also got some runs. Naturally, the victory would increase England’s confidence level.
Strauss is also optimistic about English batsman Ravi Bopara who is currently out of form. He thinks that the batsman would find form during Champions trophy.
Anyway, the opening match of Champions trophy 2009 will see South African taking on Sri Lanka tomorrow at the SuperSportPark, Centurion. If you want to know about the match, then visit the following link:
