Established in 1964 Devi Ahilya University is one of the top universities at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is also known as Indore University. The university was established in 1964 under the act of legislative assembly of Madhya Pradesh. Till 1988, the university was named after Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya after Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, the queen of Holkar dynasty of the Malwa Kingdom. She is often compared with Catherine II of Russia, Elizabeth I of England, Margaret I of Denmark. Initially, the jurisdiction of the university was limited to Indore district which was later expanded to Indore division covering more than seven districts.
