New secretariat building Chennai will be inaugurated by Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi

On March 13, 2010, Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, will inaugurate the new Secretariat building Chennai. President Singh and Sonia Gandhi will fly to Chennai. M. Karunanidhi, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu, inspected the new complex on March 12, 2010. He would also attend the ceremony and look over the whole proceedings. Governor of the state, Surjit Singh Barnala will also attend the inauguration. Assembly speaker R. Avudaiappan will welcome the guests and Chief Secretary K.S. Sripathi will address the vote of thanks.


For the last 53 years, assembly in Tamil Nadu had been held at the Fort St. George complex. From March 19, 2010, the State Budget Session will be held at the new Assembly complex. The new complex cost Rs.4.5 billion. The building is well designed and contains many environment-friendly features. The inauguration ceremony of the building will take place in the evening and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will plant a sapling before the inauguration. The function will continue for one hour. Among others- Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, Chief Minister of Karnataka B.S. Yeddyurappa, Puducherry Chief Minister V. Vaidyalingam will also attend the inauguration ceremony.
