mayanti langer: The hot anchor of Zee sports

On February 28, 2010, when people all over in India and Pakistan remained glued to their television to watch the hockey match between Pakistan and India, two of the major sports rivals of South Asia, a beautiful lady caught everyone’s attention. She is none other than Mayanti Langer, an Indian TV sports journalist who works at Zee Sports and Ten Sports. Her beauty and intelligent analysis took every one by surprise. Even after the game ended, people kept on searching about this beautiful sport journalist.

Mayanti Langer is the daughter of Major General Sanjiv Langer who worked in the U.N. Her mother, Preminda Langer, is an award winning teacher. She is the granddaughter of Lt. General Rajinder Nath Batra and Mrs. Priyo Batra. Mayanti did her graduation from Hindu College under Delhi University. During her college years, she became interested in football. At that time, she was staying in the U.S. while his father worked in the U.N. Mayanti also played in college football team in the beginning. Her journalism career started when she became a guest anchor for FIFA beach football. The broadcast became very successful and she was offered a spot as a host and associate producer for Football Cafe on Zee Sports. Langer then worked on various football shows on the Zee Network. She provided commentary and interviews in beginning of the match, during half time and post-match.

Well, I did not watch the hockey match entirely but during the half time, I watched Mayanti Langer and she looked very gorgeous. However, I do not see any reason, to present her this way. She is an intelligent woman and knows very well about games and definitely she is far better than Mandira Bedi, who only knew how to show skins. Good looking women attract lots of people and that is why the sports channel are using beautiful woman like Mayanti Langer. This is not a good practice.

Here is a link where you can find some great pictures of Mayanti Langer:

move your money: A great way to change America’s economy

The effect of the recession is gradually fading away but still many businesses in the U.S could not come out of their financial problems. Many business needs to money for continuation. To help the local businesses, university students in America and financial institutions started a campaign called “Move Your Money.” The idea of this campaign is to help local communities to “develop businesses and overcome the gross wealth inequality in the city.”

Through the campaign, students and financial institutions have planned to move some of the university’s $312 million endowment money to local financial institutions such as banks, credit unions which eventually would help local businesses and rebuild the economy. Students are asking to remove 5% of the school’s cash assets into “Community Development Financial Institution” like the City First Bank.

In many other cities similar campaigns have been undertaken by university students. In New York city, Mayor Michael Bloomberg promised to move 425 million of municipal tax money to local credit unions.

toms shoes: Business that gives shoes to poor children

Very often we read about the social commitment of business organizations but such activities are basically another way to promote their image among people. TOMS Shoes stands out from the rest for its business model truely helps others. Set up by an American traveller, Blake Mycoskie, TOMS shoes adopted a simple business model. For each pair bought, a pair of shoes would be given to a child in need.

Blake started TOMS shoes in 2006. It all started when Blake went to Argentina to learn to play Polo. Compared to the U.S, playing Polo is cheaper in Argentina where farmers, who ride horses for a long time, play polo as their hobby. There Blake befriended with Alejo Nitti. In Argentina Blake noticed children walking on the streets without any shoes and from there he got the business idea of TOMS shoes- One for One model. Alejo Nitti became Blake’s business partner. The shoes were designed based on the alpargata, a common farmers’ shoe worn by polo players. Instead of starting a charity business Blake started TOMS shoes. The business took off in Blake’s apartment with three interns. One of them runs the whole operation today. Aside from Argentina, TOMS shoes are sent to Haiti, Ethiopia, South Africa, and even in the U.S.

BSNL introduced India’s first Mobile WiMAX service

On February 27, 2010, BSNL, the state-run telecom operator of India, launched Mobile WiMAX in Kerala. K V Thomas, Union Minister of state for Agriculture and Consumer Affairs and MP of Ernakulam MP launched the service at a function. A BSNL executive said that the company is looking forward to have at least 2,50,000 WiMAX customers by the end of 2010.

This makes BSNL the first telecom operator to launch the service in India. The Mobile WiMax technology of BSNL had been provided by AVIAT, formerly known as Hariat Stratex, a reputed wireless company that specializes in “advanced IP network migration” and works on fourth generation or Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. The Economic Times reports:

WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) technology, can provide a speed of up to 37 mbps. It is being deployed in Kerala with 900 BTS (Base Transmitting Stations) to cover the entire state, Principal General Manager, BSNL, Ernakulam, E M Abraham said.

Initially, BSNL will set up 450 BTS covering all major cities, districts and important towns which would cost about Rs. 1 billion. In the second phase, BSNL will install another 450 BTS to cover remaining towns and cities. Initially, roaming would be available within Kerala. Twenty five BTS covering Ernakulam city, Tripunithura, Kalamassery, Aluva and Angamally muncipalities had been commissioned today and another 59 BTS will be commissioned soon

The service has two data plans- Home Plan with a fixed monthly subscription fee of Rs.1000 and Business Plan which cost Rs.2000 for a bandwidth 512 to 2 mbps.

Arsenal defeat Stoke City by 3-1: Fortune Favors the Brave

Arsenal has done the impossible and defeated Stoke City by 3-1. I cannot believe it yet. Fortune favors the brave and fortune favored the Gunners today. It seemed at the beginning of the play that Arsenal was heading for another defeat as Pugh scored the first goal in the 8th minute for the Stoke City. This time, Arsene Wenger could inspire the players in the best way and Bendtner could level the score in the 32 minute. It was a superb header from Bendtner  and his presence is now giving Arsenal an edge in set pieces. The half time ended in 1-1.
In the second half, the Gunners kept up the pressure and Stoke players became physical as usual. In 65 minutes, Ryan Shawcross was shown a red card for a very bad foul to Ramsey. Stoke City had to play with 10 players. I just hope that Ramsey can come back to football soon. Then Arsenal could take advantage of the extra man and in the 90th minute, Fabregas scored a goal from Penalty and Arsenal was leading by 2-1. Then, in 93 minute (3 minutes of added time) Thomas Vermaelen scored the third goal from close range.
With this win, Arsenal has now 58 points from 28 matches.

India vs Pakistan Preview and Live Score: World Cup Hockey 2010

Final Score of the match:
India has won by 4-1
World Cup Hockey is going to start from tomorrow February 28, 2010, and in the opening day arch rivals India and Pakistan are going to play against each other. This time, the event is going to take place in India and that is why millions of people of these two countries are eagerly waiting for this match.
For live score and Updates of the match, visit this entry:
India vs Pakistan Live Updates Hockey World Cup 2010
India vs. Pakistan World Cup Hockey 2010 will start at 20:35 local time India and it will be broadcast in many TV channels right across the world.
A few weeks ago, the two countries met with each other in Argentina in Champion’s Challenge Cup. In the semi-final match, Pakistan defeated India by 6-3 goals. Before that, in May 2009, the two countries played against each other in Malaysia in Asia cup and Pakistan defeated India by 3-2 goals.
When there is any hockey match involving the two countries then it is always a memorable event for the supporters of these two countries. It is always a huge mental pressure for the players of the both sides because there are expectations of millions of people. It does not matter what Pakistan or India does in the whole tournament but this is a must-win match for both the teams. This pressure is sometimes too much.
Both Indian and Pakistan are in pool-B in this world cup. Australia, England, Spain, and South Africa are the other remaining teams of this pool. So, a win tomorrow is not just a win over the arch rival but an important one for the pool-B. In this pool, Australia and England both are very strong teams.
If we take a look at the history of hockey world cup then we would see that Pakistan won the tournament four times; the maximum number. Pakistan won the Hockey World Cup in 1971, 1978, 1982 and 1994. However, after 1994, Pakistan failed to even reach the top four. India won the Hockey World Cup only once in 1975. So, it is exactly thirty five years that India has not won the title of any hockey world cup. After 1975, India, like Pakistan, failed to make it to the top four. Thus, Pakistan perhaps has better record in Hockey World Cup history compared to India.
This time, India is taking part in the event as the host country. On the other hand, Pakistan is taking part because of winning a qualification tournament. Pakistan qualified after playing against Japan, Poland, France, Russia and Italy. Both the two countries could not win the Asia Cup Hockey in 2009 that took place in Malaysia. In fact, in Asia Cup Hockey, it was South Korea who won the trophy.
There is now a lot of war-of-words between Pakistan and India camp. Pakistan’s hockey-captain, Zeeshan Ashraf stated that his players were confident that they would win the upcoming match with India that would take place at Dhanchand Stadium in New Delhi, the capital of India. The sitting capacity of the stadium is 19,000 and all the tickets have been sold. Recently, in a practice match, Pakistan drew 1-1 with Canada which upset many Pakistani hockey fans. So, the Pakistani players are now eager to show their countrymen that they can defeat their arch-rival, India.
There is same kind of optimism in Indian camp. Indian hockey team captain, Rajpal Singh, is also confident about winning the match. He is hopeful that his team would make it to the top four. If it happens then it would be an excellent thing for the Indian hockey for the sports have been struggling for quite some time. Leslie Claudius was the captain of the Indian hockey team in the Rome Olympics in 1960. He stated that if India can win tomorrow’s match then it would help them in the tournament. He is hoping to see a very competitive match.
The relationship between India and Pakistan is not that good in the last two years. As a result, the Pakistani hockey team is kept in high-security at New Delhi. The players have been advised not to travel alone and whenever, they go out, security guards accompany them to ensure their safety. Security measures have also been taken for tomorrow’s match.
There is a lot of anger in Pakistan because last month, in the IPL auction, all the Pakistani players were left out. This matter was like an insult to the Pakistani people and they are expecting that their hockey team can take revenge for the IPL insult. On the other hand, many people in India blame Pakistan for the terrorist attack in Mumbai in November 2008 and they also want to take revenge by defeating Pakistan in tomorrow’s match.
As there is this kind of angry feelings between the two countries and the people, it is going to be a match in which, the players would become very tensed and nervous. I just hope that they do not engage into any kind of violence. I also expect to see a clean match.
If you ask me who will win the match then I have to say that India has the upper-hand because it is their home venue. However, India’s recent performance is not so good and Pakistan defeated in both the matches they played in the last one year. So, it is not clear to me who will win tomorrow’s match.
As for live coverage of the match, you can watch the matches. I am giving you the link to the entry containing the name of TV channels.
Who will win?

World Cup Hockey 2010 Live telecast in Ten Sports, PTV, Doordarshan and Others TV Channels

World Cup Hockey 2010 is going to start from Sunday 28th February 2010. In the opening day, India and Pakistan are going to play against each other and it will perhaps become the most watched match in television in the entire tournament. This time, the event is taking place in India and you know that the national sport of India is hockey. Of course these days, hockey does not have the same popularity in this country like the past. However, many people are interested about this sport and you can be sure that many will go to the stadiums when the matches involving India will be played.
Anyway, for most of us who do not live in India but are interest to watch the matches of world cup hockey on television, there is good news that many TV channels will broadcast the matches. I am very happy to see that this time a record number of TV channels are going to broadcast the matches live and as a result millions of people around the world in every continent will be able enjoy them.
First of all, I like to talk about Ten Sports because Ten Sports has been giving a lot of coverage to the tournament. Ten Sports is popular in South Asia and in Middle East. It is a based in UAE. Ten Sports regularly broadcast hockey events.
Ten Sports may be a popular TV channel in South Asia and Middle East but it is not a terrestrial TV channel. It is in fact a satellite channel and its viewership is limited compared to national TV channels like Doordarshan. Doordarshan is the national TV channel in India and it is going to broadcast world cup hockey 2010 matches. According to the official website of International Hockey Federation, Doordarshan reaches nearly 110 million homes and as a result almost 600 millions people will be able to watch the matches if they want.
In Pakistan, PTV is the national TV channel and it is available in any home with a television set. Pakistan was once the world champion and many people are emotional about this sport in Pakistan. Now, Pakistan cricket team is doing very bad and that is why many people will hope that hockey team can bring some glory for them. I am sure that the millions of people in Pakistan will be in front of their TV sets in the match against India on 28th February. And if the national team can advance to semi-final stage then surely it will ensure a huge viewership of the semi-final matches. Pakistan last became world cup champion in 1994 and since then in the last three world cup hockey events, all they could manage was that sixth place.
I also like to mention about Super Sports because Super Sports is available all across Africa. I was checking the Super Sports website and I found out that they will broadcast a number of matches of world cup hockey. Especially they will be showing the matches involving South Africa. On 28th February, South Africa is going to play against Spain.
As for other TV channels, I am giving the list from international hockey federation websites:
- Ten Sports (cable and satellite; India Subcontinent) – all matches live
- Astro Super sports (cable and satellite; Malaysia, Indonesia) – all matches live
- Starhub – (cable and satellite, Singapore) – all matches live or delayed
- PTV (terrestrial, Pakistan) – PAK matches and final
- NOS (terrestrial, Netherlands)– extended daily highlights and live coverage of selected matches
- Sport 1 (cable and satellite,  Netherlands) – all matches live
- Teledeportes (digital terrestrial, Spain) – ESP matches and final
- Sport Digital (cable and satellite, Germany) – schedule TBC
- ARD/ZDF (terrestrial, Germany) – extended news
- Deutsche Welle (worldwide) – extended news
- Zee (cable and satellite; UK) – all matches live
- Cricket Plus (cable and satellite; USA and Canada) – all matches live and delayed
- ESPN Sur – (cable and satellite; Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay) – all Argentina matches plus final
- SKY SPORTS – (cable and satellite, New Zealand) – NZ matches and final
- FOX  Sports (cable and satellite, Australia) – AUS matches and final
- Showtime – (cable and satellite; Middle East) – all matches live
- Supersports (cable and satellite, pan-Africa) – RSA matches and final

In the above list, perhaps you can see that in England, Zee will telecast the matches. In Germany, it is Sport Digital and ARD/ZDF. In USA, and Canada, it is Cricket Plus. In Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay the TV channel will be the ESPN Sur. In New Zealand it is Sky Sports and in Australia it is Fox Sports.
Here, I like to say few words about the TV coverage of World cup hockey 2010. I am very happy that it is to being covered by a record number of channels. However, I felt disappointed in the absence of some notable TV channels like Sky Sports in England and ESPN in USA. I really wish that International Hockey Federation can come up with these major TV channels in UK and USA. They are very popular and they reach in huge audience.
I saw a news in Geo Super website of Pakistan that many sports journalist protested after they could not cover training seasons of different team. This kind of incident should not be repeated because hockey is gradually becoming a dying sport. It has lost popularity in traditional strong holds like India and Pakistan. So, International Hockey Federation officials should remember that they must try to work very hard with the media to bring back some of the popularity. Otherwise, in near future the sports may die.
I hope that you will be able to watch the hockey matches live. If you are anyway interested about this sport then try to watch as many matches as possible because this is becoming a dying match and if you watch more then advertisers will be interested to spend more money on this sport.

The Indian telecom industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and also the second largest market in the world in terms of subscribers. Young people make up a significant portion of the Indian subscriber base. Hence, companies like Nokia, Samsung, LG are very much interested in establishing themselves in the Indian market. Recently, the Union budget 2010 has been announced but there is nothing special for the Indian telecom sector. The budget proposed to extend the benefit of exemption of “Special Additional Duty of Customs” of four percents on parts imported by mobile handset manufacturers. The budget also proposed a tax concession for mobile accessory manufacturers. It also proposed to remove the 24% import duty on raw materials for batteries, charger and other parts and accessories. These tax exemptions will further bring down the price of mobile phone sets and accessories in India.

Another great news for the Indian mobile phone users is that they would be able to access high speed Internet and data transfer through 3G technology and broadband wireless access after September 2010. Indian telecom department set September as the timeline. Within this time, bidders will be allowed to use their allotted airwaves for commercial operation. On February 25, 2010, Indian government issued a notice inviting bids from private telecom operators to participate in the auction of 3G airwaves. Government will allow three private operators.

Thus, it is a new innovation and it will also help YouTube to become more popular in India.
YouTube is now taking some sponsors for this event. It has already got HSBC bank and we are also hearing the names of companies like HP and Samsung. It is not clear how much money Google has paid BCCI for online live casting but the deal is for two years.
The participation of HSBC as sponsor will surely help Google to earn more money. When Google acquired YouTube few years ago for $1.65 billion then many people did not understand how Google is going to earn money through it. Now, it seems that broadcasting matches can be a good source of income.

India Budget 2010: Income Tax Rates will Please the Middle Class

It is perhaps a bit difficult to give the definition of the Middle Class in India. However, I am sure that the income tax rates announced in union budget 2010 will please the middle class people. Before anything let me give you the rates of income tax in India from now:
Until 160,000 rupees: 0%
160,000 to 500,000 rupees: 10%
500,000 to 800,000 rupees: 20%
Over 800,000 rupees: 30%
I think that the largest beneficiary will from the income group of 500,000 to 800,000 rupees. The new rates will save them a lot of money each year. The main goal is to encourage people to consume more. Also, Indian government perhaps wants that people feel more encouraged to pay tax and not try to evade it.
Indian economy is gradually coming out of the recession. Now, the companies would want that people try to consume more and this way the economy against gets rolling. The government also wants the same thing.
I am just concerned about the poor people. Most people in India do not earn 160,000 rupees per year.

Karthik Calling Karthik review: Poor climax ruined the movie

Director: Vijay Lalwani
Star cast:
Farhan Akhtar...... Karthik Narayan
Deepika Padukone...... Shonali Mukherjee
Ram Kapoor...... Mr. Kamath
Shefali Chhaya...... Mrs. Kapadia
Vivaan Bhathena
Vipin Sharma
Yatin Karyekar

Karthik Calling Karthik is a romantic thriller. Karthik Narayan played by Farhan Akhtar is a top student from IIM and works in a construction company in Mumbai but his boss treats him like a dirt. Karthik loves his colleague Shonali Mukherjee and wrote 1,317 emails but never forwarded them once. Then one night Karthik gets a call from Karthik (it could be another person or the same person). The caller then tells that he would take over the life of the loser Karthik. Over the next few scenes, we see Karthik in a different avatar. Once a loser is now a confident man and eventually wins a date with her dream girl. However, the phone calls gradually turns Karthik’s world upside down and reveals the truth.

KCK is Farhan Akhtar’s second attempt as an actor and he does play his role very well. Farhan plays three different types of role under one character but plays it very well. Deepika Padukone looked beautiful. She is now more matured as an actress. The chemistry between Deepika and Farhan Akhtar was another UPS for the movie.

However, Vijay Lalwani, the writer and director of the movie failed to keep up the expectation. The first half of the movie looks convincing but when the movie goes to the second half and shifts to Kerala the movie starts to drag and the climax looked very unconvincing. Ram Kapoor did very well. Shefali Chhaya also played his role well. Finally, Karthik Calling Karthik is an average movie.
