Baba Farid University of Health Sciences was established under an act passed by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in July, 1998. The university was created with an aim to create opportunities for the health professionals, health planners, health managers, biomedical and social scientists and educators in health sciences of the country by nurturing talented academics and intellectuals and ensuring free flow of ideas and exchange of information between various faculties as well as other faculties of other universities of Health Sciences in India and abroad. Baba Farid University of Health Sciences is the fifth university of its type in India and the first of its kind in Northern India. The university is committed to provide community oriented need based education and training programmes for health professionals. The university is of affiliating type. It affiliates eight medical colleges, forteen dental colleges, twelve Ayurvedic colleges, seventy eight nursing colleges, eleven physiotherapy colleges, four homeopathic colleges, one sports medicine college, five Med. Lab. Technology colleges, and three B.Sc. (Medical) colleges.
