Sri Lankan Squad in Tri Nation Series 2010

Sri Lankan selectors have announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Tri-Nation ODI Tournament in Bangladesh next month. They have included more new players in this squad. Some senior players have been axed from the squad. We can see that selectors are depending on fresh look face for the tour series in New Year. It is clear that selectors are not satisfied with the performance of some senior players. I don’t know either it was a wise decision to bring more new players. However, it is a chance given to the fresh and energetic players to prove their quality and ability to seal the victory.

Lahiru Thirimanne is the only uncapped player in Sri Lanka team. He is left-hand batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler. He has good performance both first class cricket and list A. It is expected that this 20-year-old batsman can play an important role as an all rounder.

However, Sri Lankan cricket team will be deprived of the service of some senior players who have been left out due to injury. They are Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Mathews, Muttiah Muralitharan and Dilhara Fernando. Their absence in the national squad can affect the team performance.

Sanath Jayasuriya, Lasith Malinga and Ajantha Mendis failed to take a place in the squad because of their poor performance in the recently concluded tour series against India.

Kumar Sangakkara is the captain of Sri Lankan cricket team. He is now in good form. Sangakkara is the leading batsman with an average of 55.10. Recently, he will join Lancashire. This ODI tournament is a big challenge for them because he will have to lead some young players who have not any experience to play international match.

This triangular ODI series will kick off from 4th January 2010 against home team Bangladesh. Let us see if the home team can make any upset or not.

Sri Lanka squad: Kumar Sangakkara (captain), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Thilan Samaraweera, Chamara Silva, Thilina Kandamby, Lahiru Thirimanne, Muthumudalige Pushpakumara, Thissara Perera, Malinga Bandara, Nuwan Kulasekara, Thilan Thushara, Suraj Randiv, Suranga Lakmal, Chanaka Welegedara.

Will there be a Backlash in 2010 in USA against Outsourcing jobs to India?

For Indian outsourcing industry, 2009 was not a great year and it is perhaps understandable. The global economy suffered from severe recession. The US and European companies themselves suffered and it is natural that the impact was felt in the outsourcing industry in India.

How was 2009?
President Obama even before 2008 election did not hide his anti-outsourcing feeling. However, his anti-outsourcing stance was more rhetorical than practical and in the last one year, he did not take any deceive action to create any major obstacle. In fact, the Satyam Computer Scandal brought more worry than Obama being elected as the US president. Another problem was BBC reporting of Credit Card Fraud that created some media storm but did down quickly. In the end, recession was the main problem that did a lot of damage to the Indian outsourcing industry.

Economic Recession gone but where are the jobs?
Now, most experts would agree that the worst of the economic recession is gone in USA. At least, the stock exchange indicates that the worst is over. Large companies are not suffering the risk of bankruptcies. Rather, some large banks are paying back the bailout money to the US government. However, there is one big problem. Unemployment rate is still very high and there is no sign of job creation in the US economy at this moment. Thousands of people lost jobs in the 12 months of 2009 and there is hardly any indication that even half of the jobs will come back in 2010. Thus, at this moment, the economic recovery is perhaps more limited to the big companies than individuals.

High Unemployment Means Low Consumption
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that high unemployment figures in USA means that consumption will not increase significantly. US economy is based on consumerism. As long as the jobs are not coming back, people will be afraid to buy things like past. Now, there is some kind of grievance among US workers about outsourcing to India. It is nothing new but in a time of high unemployment, it is natural that more people think that outsourcing is the main villain. Such an attitude is surely a bad thing for the outsourcing industry of India.
It is not god even for US politicians either. They are under pressure to create jobs. Some politicians have found a new way to show that they are doing something. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland is one of them. He is trying to convince Tata Consultancy Services to create jobs in his state. The idea is that Tata needs to have some offices in the US and Ted Strickland is trying to act TCS to recruit more American workers instead of either sending the jobs to India or bringing workers from India under temporary Visa. Some other US politicians are trying the same formula. The catch word is ‘creating jobs’ for American people. If Ted Strickland becomes successful, then 1,000 jobs can be created by TCS in Ohio. I mean these 1,000 workers will be US citizens.

Indian companies recruiting in USA: Just eyewash?
Critics would say that it is nothing but eyewash. Creating several thousand jobs in a country like USA is literally a drop of water in a sandy desert. Perhaps they are right. However, you have to understand one thing. Companies like TCS or Wipro are much smaller compared to IBM and Accenture when you think of revenue and asset. IBM and Accenture are US companies that are rivals of Indian outsourcing companies.

Should Temporary Visas be reduced?
A very serious bone of contention in USA these days is temporary visas (like H-1B) granted to foreign skilled workers. The recession has made many skilled workers in USA unemployed. So, naturally, there is a growing call for reduction of temporary visas. Large companies like Microsoft are in favor of increasing visa caps but at a time of high unemployment, US politicians are coming under a lot of pressure to decrease H1-B visa cap. Now, perhaps the question is not whether temporary visas to skilled foreign workers be reduced or not. Instead, most people are perhaps thinking how and when to reduce it.

What about Globalization?
It is the Americans who for decades advocated for globalization, free market economy and capitalism. Now, they have to face the bad side of globalization. US politicians have to do a balancing act because US companies are getting big contracts in India. India is also a very attractive flourishing market for American companies. For example, right now, India is the largest market for small cars.

Indian companies unfairly criticized?
US companies send jobs to Indian workers to save money not to save Indian economy or create jobs. This is the thing that most critics of outsourcing forget. Indian companies are just like cheap contractors and because US companies want to save money they outsource jobs to Indian companies. That is why, it is really unfair to criticize Indian outsourcing companies. If any backlash happens in 2010 then it will be even more unfair.

Cheap Products vs US jobs
This is the dilemma that US consumers don’t want to realize. They want very cheap products and services and then they complain about ‘lousy customer services’. One of the common complains against Indian workers is they don’t understand American accent that well. You cannot get cheap products and US jobs at the same time- this is the thing that US consumers have to realize.
In the end, I think that there would be some kind of backlash against Indian outsourcing sector. However, any action will become useless because in the end, it is the US consumers who are the root problem not cheap Indian workers.

The 10th Indian Auto Expo: A big opportunity for local parts manufacturers

The 10th Indian Auto expo 2010 will showcase the national and International autoparts manufacturers. This year, the Indian auto sector saw an unprecedented rise in passenger car sales. Moreover, the country very quickly recovered from the economic meltdown. For this reason, the 10th Indian Auto Expo holds great importance to the auto parts producers. My Digital FC.com reports:

“Indian auto component companies have consolidated their position to be the key suppliers for small cars. The global auto industry realised the real capabilities of Indian auto parts firms after the launch of Tata Nano. There will be significant opportunities as these new small cars, to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2010, need to have higher local content to make their presence felt here,” Vishnu Mathur, executive director, Auto Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) told Financial Chronicle.

About 1000 Indian firms are going to participate along with international firms from 30 different countries. Several Chinese firms are also participating in the show. The firms will showcase locally produced auto parts such as navigation controls, management systems, security systems etc. Green vehicle and green technology will be given lots of importance and this will also open up new possibilities for auto parts manufacturers.

Schedule of Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka Tri Nation ODI Series 2010

Tri-Nation ODI Tournament in Bangladesh 2010 is knocking at the door. Only four days are left to start of this exciting and nail biting ODI tournament between three Test playing countries. It is scheduled to start from 4th January 2010. They are India, Sri Lanka and host team Bangladesh. It has already caught the attention to all cricket fans in the world. Ahead of the upcoming ODI tournament, each of the teams has already announced their squad. It is going to be the first ODI tournament for three countries next year.

Famous Sports TV channel NEO Cricket has got the right to broadcast it live world wide. This channel will cover India’s tour in Bangladesh including tri-series and two-match Test series against Bangladesh. As both India and Sri Lanka have already played so, it may not get much importance to the cricket fans.

Sri Lanka toured India to play a series including Test, ODI and T20. However, tourist team lost both the longest format of cricket game and limited over game. They only could tie the two-match T20 series 1-1. So, the upcoming tour series is going to be a revenge game for Sri Lankan cricket team. A series victory can reduce their pain and help them to forget the darkest time. Sri Lankan selectors have brought a wholesale change after Sri Lanka’s disappointing performance against India. Lahiru Thirimanne is supposed to make his debut. The 20-year-old player is a left hand batsman and left-arm medium fast bowler. The main target of Sri Lankan cricket team should perform well and snatch the trophy in the New Year. Some top players like Sanath Jayasuriya, Lasith Malinga, Ajantha Mendis and Chamara Kapugedera have been axed. Kumar Sangakkara is the captain of Sri Lanka team. He is the leading run scorer with an average of 55.10. Recently, he caught the media attention after signing with Lancashire as a batsman.

Indian cricket team is now floating in the air after they have finished a series against Sri Lanka recently. Their performance against Sri Lanka was satisfactory. For the first time, they have reached at the top of ICC Test ranking. Thanks to a 2-0 victory in a test series, India could achieve this position. It also raises a question to the mind of Indian fans that how long they can stay at the top of the list. No doubt, India is the hot favorite in this tournament. Even they have the possibility to win the trophy. India’s most experienced batsman Sachin Tendulkar has opted out his name from this tour game. He will be rested. Indian captain MS Dhoni will lead his team. He was banned for two ODI matches due to slow over rate. Year 2009 brought some cheer to the Indian cricket fans. Let us see what is waiting in the fate of Indian cricket team in 2010. Do you think they can continue their dominance in the cricket world?

As I earlier stated you that this tri-nation ODI tournament will be held in Bangladesh so, you can easily understand that Bangladesh cricket team will get some advantage as a host team. Though Bangladesh cricket team is not a strong opponent team in this tournament but they are always considered as giant team. Cricket fans always like to see them to make upset against any big team. If luck favors them then it can happen against either against India or Sri Lankan cricket team. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has come back in the national squad. He has been announced as captain. Once again cricket fans can see him leading Bangladesh national cricket team. Three former rebel players Shahriar Nafees, Aftab Ahmed and Alok Kapali have also been included in this squad. Their inclusion in the national squad will help to make a strong protest against the opponent team.

Joys of Life: The theme of Maruti Suzuki at the 10th Indian Auto Expo

In the 10th Indian Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. is going to unveil it’s first compact multi-purpose vehicle concept, Concept R3. The car has been designed and built by a team of local engineers in a time span of nine months and will be very much different from the existing products of Maruti Suzuki family. This new car will serve as a milestone for Maruti Suzuki, for it is entirely produced in India. Maruti was the company that first mass produced cars and revolutionized the Indian auto sector.

At the 9th Auto Expo in 2008, Maruti’s theme was “Colors of Life” and at the 10th Auto Expo, Maruti Suzuki will adopt the theme ‘Joys of Life’ which is an extension of the former. Both the themes very much relate with Suzuki Motor Co.’s global corporate philosophy, 'Way of Life.'

Two-wheelers shine at the 10th Indian Auto Expo

Two-wheeler is another thriving sector of the Indian auto industry. The best thing about the two-wheelers are- in a jam-packed road you can easily move with it, it is easy to park for its small size and comes in different price range meaning, there is something for everyone. Currently,700,000 bikes are sold per month in India. Honda, which started its joint venture with Hero group India in 1984, became the market leader in India and one of the top two-wheeler manufacturers of the world. Bajaj Auto, Hero Honda and TVS Motor are the top three two-wheeler producers of the country and they will also attend the 10th Indian Auto Expo.

Though Indian economy felt the tremors of the economic recession, it successfully came out of it. Thanks to government’s stimulus package, reduction in “excise duty on small cars,” the growing appetite for cars among people did not die out. Rural India also played a big role. Many people in villages bought cars and motorcycles and the Indian automakers took full advantage of this opportunity. However, there was a bump when drought hit Northern India. In 20009, passenger cars lead the sales with a staggering 1,33,687 units in November. This is a 61% increase compared to the 83,121 sales of 2008. In 2009, Maruti, the top passenger car maker of India produced 75,000 cars per month followed by Hyundai with more than 40,000 units.

10th Indian Auto Expo: More small cars are coming your way

In 1998, Tata Indica dazzled the Indian Auto Expo. Ten years later, Tata Nano, the cheapest car of the world stole the limelight. At the 10th Indian Auto Expo, we will not see such showstoppers but there will be many launches, especially small cars. Maruti Suzuki alone will display seventeen cars. It will unveil ‘Eeco,’ a small car sporting 1200 cc petrol engine. The car will be priced at Rs.400,000. Then there is the Concept R3, a compact multi-purpose vehicle.

This year, Tata Motors booked the largest space in the show; 5,500 square meters. This is followed by Maruti Suzuki with 4,700 sq meters. Toyota will unveil its new EFC (Entry Family Car). Toyota’s small concept car, codenamed 800 L, will be unveiled at the expo. Till now, I have been reading in news reports that Ford is not going participate in the show but Hindu Business Line reported that Ford will display its Figo small car which was unveiled by the company’s president, Mr. Alan Mulally, in New Delhi, few months ago.

In India in 2009, car sales is set to jump at least 16 per cent to 1.4 million vehicles in India, the second most populous country in the world. Three quarters of the Indian car market is made up of cars shorter than four meters. Passenger car sales, which showed tremendous growth so far, will rise by 14.5% to 2.4 million cars annually by March 2014.

Bangladesh Squad for Tri Series 2010 with India and Sri Lanka

Tri-nation ODI series including India, Sri Lanka and host Bangladesh will kick off from 4th January 2010. Ahead of this upcoming triangular ODI series, Bangladeshi selectors have announced an 18-man squad. These players were named from the primary squad of 26 players. However, this time Bangladesh cricket team looks like much stronger than past.

Mashrafe Mortaza has returned back from injury. He will lead Bangladesh cricket team in this tri-nation ODI tournament. However, he had to prove his fitness to get place in the national squad. He is considered as the leading bowler in Bangladesh cricket team. However, Bangladesh had to fight five months without him. He sustained injury in September. After that he had to undergo surgery. Now, he is totally fit. The return of Mashrafe Mortaza is a big threat for the opponent teams.

Shakib Al Hasan has been selected as the vice-captain of Bangladesh cricket team. He was stand-in captain in the place of Mashrafe Mortaza when he had to stay sidelines due to his injury. However, year 2009 was a good year for Shakib Al Hasan. He led Bangladesh team to hold some big victories. Even, under his captaincy, Bangladesh won both Test and ODI series against West Indies for the first time in cricket history.

Opening batsman Tamim Iqbal has been included despite his injury. He has hurt his left hand. Selectors have kept faith on him that he will be recovered soon before the start of the tournament.

Pace bowler Shafiul Islam is the only new face in this squad. He is supposed to make his debut with the ODI format of cricket game next month. He has the experience to play only first class and list A cricket.

Left arm opener Junaid Siddique and left arm spinner Enamul Haque Jnr have been left out of the squad. Junaid Siddique is a hard hitter but not reliable opener. He could not show his impressive performance this year. Coach and selectors are not satisfied with him. Enamul Haque Jnr is a good spin bowler but it is his bad luck that he failed to get his place in Bangladesh squad.

Three former rebel players have been included in this squad for the first time after they had returned to Bangladesh from separating their relation with unauthorized Indian Cricket League (ICL). They are Shahriar Nafees, Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kopali. Dhiman Ghosh was supposed to make his selection but he failed.

Bangladesh Squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (captain), Shakib Al Hasan (vice-captain), Mohammad Ashraful, Abdur Razzak, Mushfiqur Rahim (wicketkeeper), Tamim Iqbal, Syed Rasel, Roqibul Hassan, Mahmud Ullah, Nazmul Hossain, Naeem Islam, Imrul Kayes, Rubel Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Shahriar Nafees, Aftab Ahmed, Alok Kopali, Shafiul Islam.

Can Indian Cricket Team remain the top position in 2010?

Indian cricket team is going to end the year 2009 with number one spot in Test cricket. It was done by Indian skipper MS Dhoni who led his team successfully. He is hopeful for his team’s achievement in the next year. He says that his team will keep on the leading position for long time. However, it should be really a though task for them because they are going to play only a few Test matches in 2010. May be they are going to play only four test matches next year. It seems that Dhoni is not disappointed about it. He said that he wants to play a minimum number of tests every year.

I think that Indian fans are upset about it. Fewer test matches can be the main reason for India’s downfall from top position. Even India may slip down early from the top position. The existence of Test cricket is under threat. Now-a-days, cricket players do not like to play the longest version of cricket game. The interest of test cricket is decreasing day by day. Let us see how long it can exist.

Kumar Sangakkara is the overseas player to join Lancashire

Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has caught the media attention after joining English cricket club Lancashire. He is going to be the Lancashire’s overseas player in 2010. He will join this club in the next summer. The 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has singed for Lancashire only as a batsman despite being a world class wicketkeeper. Kumar Sangakkara is in good form. He has passed a good time this year. I hope he will continue his success in the next year. Because of his impressive performance he has become the world’s leading batsmen with an average of 55.10.

Sangakkara is going to follow the foot-step of his fellow teammates Muttiah Muralitharan and Sanath Jayasuriya to be the latest Sri Lankan player in Lancashire.

Australia takes the charge of first test after the end of day 2

Australian cricket team has sent the touring team Pakistan under huge pressure after declaring their first innings 454 for 5 in day 2 of the first test match. After coming to chase Australia’s innings, Pakistan has already lost their top four batsmen with just 109 runs at the end of second day. Umar Akmal is batting on 10 along with Mohammad Aamer who was remained unbeaten without scoring any run. Pakistan cricket team is still trailing by 345 runs.

Pakistan’s bowling line up was the main cause of concern for home team. But later it was found useless in the bouncy pitch. Australia finished the opening day with 305 for 3. On second day, they added 149 runs more after playing 38 overs. Michael Hussey and Nathan Hauritz scored 82 and 75 respectively. After the departure of Nathan Hauritz, Australia declared the first innings. Michael Clarke remained not out 28.

Saeed Ajmal took Michael Hussey’s wicket and Abdur Rauf dismissed Nathan Hauritz. The funny thing is that both wickets were trapped by LBW.

For Australian cricket team, Mitchell Johnson brought the first break through. Nathan Hauritz showed his all rounder form after taking Faisal Iqbal’s wicket. Peter Siddle made his good come back from injury. He claimed Mohammad Yousuf’s wicket. He gave the last break through at the end of the day. Salman Butt was in good form. He started well but could not continue. He was 5 runs away from half century. Shane Watson took his wicket.
