Brazil and England faces each other in a high-profile international friendly on 14 November 2009 at the Khalifa International Stadium, Doha in Qatar. This friendly game is part of the agreement between the two football federations of England and Brazil, and by the same deal, Brazil played the inaugural match at the new Wembley Stadium in 2007 against England. England manager Fabio Capello named 23-men England squad on 8 November, six days before Dunga announced his Brazilian squad for the upcoming friendlies against England and Oman this month. For both teams, the coming friendly games are going to be their last international games this year. Naturally, both coaches named some uncapped players ahead of the games in order to look at their strength ahead of next year’s world cup 2010.

England called up two uncapped players: Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone. Moreover, striker Darren Bent has been recalled alongside Aston Villa defender Stephen Warnock who played his only international game against Trinidad and Tobago in 2008. Birmingham goalkeeper Joe Hart, who also played his only game against Trinidad and Tobago last year, has been recalled to the squad.

England is missing some key players like Steven Gerrard, Rio Ferdinand and Aaron Lennon through injuries, while Capello dropped some of the regular players like strikers Emile Heskey and Carlton Cole as well as goalkeeper David James. Chelsea’s influential left back Ashley Cole has also been ruled out for the Brazil friendly game. In the absence of Heskey and Carlton Cole, Tottenham striker Peter Crouch is most likely to feature alongside Wayne Rooney in England’s forward line up.

England manager Fabio Capello has said that England is going to play only one friendly game, considering the benefit of the clubs as the Premier league is going on in full swing.

The FA reported:

"Most other countries are playing two games but we are only playing one match and returning the players on Sunday, four days earlier than the other countries.

"We did this out of respect to the players and their clubs at such a busy time in the fixture calendar."

Brazil coach Dunga also named three new players in the squad. They are: Olympique Lyon defender Michel Bastos, Hoffenheim midfielder Carlos Eduardo and Porto’s in-form striker Hulk. No doubt, Hulk has been in excellent form since joining the Portuguese club FC Porto in 2008. For the last few months, Hulk was one of the regular candidates to make it to the final squad. This time, Dunga has handed the 23-year-old his deserved place. The Brazil coach is also very keen to see if Hulk can show his talent in the coming games.

Foxsports reported:

"We've been looking at his performance in the Portuguese league and the Champions League, and now there is an opportunity to see him from up close," Dunga said.

The coach said he summoned several new players because "a lot can still happen" until the 2010 World Cup.

"We have to look at players with different characteristics because we can always change the way we play," Dunga said.

Robinho who missed last three world cup qualifying games has been back into the squad after recovering his ankle injury. The Manchester City forward last played for Brazil in a 3-1 victory over Argentina last September. There is no player from Brazilian league as Dunga decided not to include Adriano and Ronaldo. Juventus midfielder Diego as well as AC Milan’s Pato and Ronaldinho failed to make it to the final squad. However, Real Madrid striker Kaka and Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar have successfully retained their place in the squad. Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano is also there in the forward line up alongside Robinho, Nilmar and Hulk.

However, there is uncertainty over the availability of two Roma players: goalkeeper Doni and defender Juan- who have been named in the squad. However, both the players were unavailable for selection in Roma’s recent 1-1 draw with Inter Milan due to their injuries. So, Roma is not keen to allow the two player travel with Brazil team to Qatar.

Reuters reported:

"Doni and Juan will stay in Rome to have treatment, given that Brazil are only playing two friendlies and the regulations allow it," Roma's sporting human resources manager Gianpaolo Montali was quoted as saying by Monday's La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We have sent an urgent fax to the Brazilian Football Federation with all the necessary documentation. If the national team doctors want to verify the condition of their players, they can come to Rome and do it."

Both Brazil and England have already ensured their place in next year’s world cup tournament in South Africa, and interestingly both teams finished at the top in the qualifying round. In the last 9 games in all competitions, Brazil won 7 games, drew 1 and lost one. Brazil also has the same record in their last 9 international games in all competitions. However, their recent defeats came in their last 2 international fixtures. Brazil lost at Bolivia 2-1, while England lost to Ukraine on the way.

Though Brazil is home side on pen and paper, neither side would enjoy the home game advantage as the match is going to take place in Doha. However, that may not affect that game as both sides will be looking to win the games, and thus, increasing their confidence level ahead of world cup 2010.
