Kerala Women’s Commission is starting SMS system to catch eve teasers

Now, eve teasers will have a tough time in Kerala as Kerala’s women’s commission is going to launch SMS systems to bring eve teasers to justice.

Now, women would be able send SMS to Women’s Commission, who would pass the information to the nearest police station from where message had been sent. VP Ramachandran, Kerala Women’s Commission secretary, said that they would test the system before launching to make sure the SMS received are genuine. He said:

"We have worked out the nitty gritty of the proposal and submitted it to the government for clearance from the IT department. Discussions are also on with service providers like BSNL. We expect the system to be through by this month end,"

The messages would be received on the main server of the Women’s Commission office and the mobile phones of the designated officers. The commission also introduced SMS facility to reply to queries. In addition, people can also submit complaints through the official website of the Kerala Women’s Commission- www.keralawomenscommission.govt.in.

I was shocked after reading this news because Kerala is one of the most developed states in India with a high literacy rate. What even surprised me that even aged people are involved in eve teasing. Kerala is also one of the popular tourist destinations. Many foreigners also become victims of eve teasing. In order to combat eve teasing, along with strict law enforcement, social awareness is also very much important. Only police alone can not handle this problem.
