India vs Australia 1st ODI Live Updates: 25 October 2009

India
is going to take on Australia in a 7-match ODI series at home starting from 25 October 2009. Australia is confident after winning the Champions Trophy 2009, while India would look to bounce back strongly against Australia in their attempt to compensate for their poor show in Champions Trophy. Australia can take inspiration from their previous ODI series in India as they clinched the 7-match ODI series 4-2.

Those of you looking for information about tickets of this series should read this entry:

India’s limited over performance in the recent past does not look pretty impressive. First of all, India was crushed out of ICC World Twenty20 2009 and then last month India failed to reach the last four of Champions Trophy 2009. Naturally, Indian cricket fans are annoyed and now expecting a strong performance from team India.

Interestingly, India’s recent performance in the bi-lateral ODI series is not bad at all. In fact, India did not lose any of their bi-lateral ODI series since their defeat to Australia at home in September-October 2007. That means India won all the ODI series in the past 2 years including a 3-2 win over Pakistan at home, 3-2 win in Sri Lanka, a clean sweep against England at home, a comprehensive 4-1 win in Sri Lanka earlier this year, a historic 3-1 win in New Zealand and a 2-1 win over West Indies in the Caribbean. Overall, India won 12 out of their 20 ODI matches this year, lost 5 and 3 other matches were ended without any result. Still, it is true that Indian team is now under huge pressure after their poor display in the world twenty20 and Champions Trophy. Naturally, Indian team would like to give their best against Australia in the upcoming series. I already mentioned that Australia will be full of confident mainly because of their successful title defense in the recently held Champions Trophy. However, Ricky Ponting and his men know it very well that they would have to give their best in India where the condition would not be in their favor. The only good thing is that Australia would not have to think a lot about intense heat and humidity because winter is coming in India.

Australia may have won the last ODI series in India, but the Aussies also know it very well that last year they lost to India 2-0 in the test series. The most important thing is that Australian team looked helpless against India last year and that is what would be in the mind of Indian players this time. Australia may have won the ODI series against Pakistan and Scotland, but earlier this year, they lost to South Africa both at home and away. So, I think, it would be a huge test for Australia in India and they would not find it easy to break Dhoni and his men, given India’s home advantage and return of Virender Sehwag in the team.
