Fox Searchlight acquired the distribution rights of My Names Is Khan

My Name Is Khan, the upcoming movie of Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar is going to release next year. Famous Hollywood Studio, Fox Searchlight, bought the distribution rights of the movie for Rs.1 billion. It will handle the distribution of the movie in India, the U.S and the rest of the world. In the movie, Shah Rukh Khan plays Rizwaan Khan, an Indian Muslim living in San Francisco, who suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, an autism disorder for which he can not properly communicate with people. Still, he goes out on this life changing journey around USA and creates a new revolution. The movie is said to be based on a true story.



On August 6, 2009, Fox Star Studios India, the joint venture between 20th Century Fox and Star, announced the deal. Fox Searchlight acquired the movie title. Fox Searchlight Star India also bought the distribution rights of Slumdog Millionaire, the Oscar winning movie of British director, Danny Boyle.



In the press meet of My Name Is Khan, Shah Rukh Khan jokingly said that he had joined with Fox because he wanted to marry Megan Fox. In the end, Khan expressed his happiness that Indian cinema is getting the opportunity to enter into the world market.
