India: 8,532 City Sedan Cars to be Recalled by Honda

A faulty power window switch is the main problem and Honda is recalling more than 0.6 million cars worldwide for it. In India, the number is just 8,532 and the model in question is City Sedan. These cars were sold in 2007. Honda Siel Cars India has assured the car owners that they would not have to pay any extra money for the replacements. So, the owners would feel satisfied that they would not have to incur any kind of expense. The company has asked its dealers to find the car owners and this is a good step.
The statement of the company wrote:
"HSCI is proactively replacing the part in these vehicles related to the potential problem of smoke coming out from the power window switch if water enters the driver window when window is left open during rain or is exposed to any other liquid due to spillage. The third generation City, currently sold in India, is not affected and does not require replacement."

Honda India should put more information in the company website about this recall. Another Japanese company Toyota is also having a very tough time with the recall issue.

Coming back to Blogging after a Long Illness

I have literally become sick and tired of writing in different blogs that I have been suffering from long illness for the last 7 months. It was like 1 July 2009 to 31 January 2010. Yes, long 7 months. I had to do a very nasty teeth treatment (root canals in 7 teeth) and my health became very weak as a result. Then gained 10 KG weight in just 2 months and I started to suffer from obesity. Then, I had to try to lose that 10 KG in 2 months thanks to some vigorous weight loss dieting. I am still fighting with my excessive weight.

At last, today, I feel some fresh. So, from tomorrow 1 February 2010, I hope to make a strong come back to full time blogging. I am a blogger and this is my full time work. Really, I feel very happy to be back to my health again. In my mind, I feel very fresh too. I was taking a look at the blogs and I felt satisfied with the fact that somehow, I could keep on going despite the fact that I could not work that much.
Before, this blog (South Asia Blog) was my main blog and I used to work hard for it. It was tragic that I had to change hosting in June and changed blogging platform from WordPress to Blogger in June 2009. After doing that I became sick and in July and August traffic decreased substantially. However, since September, things became better. Even in January 2010, the blog received 66,000 page views. Last month, it was 90,000.
I am very happy with the way things are going on. Well, I have to admit that revenue suffered but it was mainly for economic recession. I am hopeful for 2010.
I started the blog with the goal to write quality entries about South Asian business and economy. I live in Bangladesh and I love to read about everything and anything of this region. This is my favorite place on earth and I cannot be happier in any other part of the world. I again want to write good entries about South Asian business and economy. Yes, sometimes, I will write off topic entries for two reasons: getting traffic (earning money) and taking a break from business and economy. However, I will mostly stick to my original topic and try to produce content on this field.
This long illness has done one good thing for me. It has given me a lot of time to think and contemplate. I started the blog 13 months ago in the right way and did everything write but it was my bad luck that I did not have any idea of shared hosting and it suffered a very big blow. I did a big mistake by changing topic in the middle and going towards sports and entertainment instead of focusing on business and economy. Yes, I got some quick traffic but I realized that it was not a good way.
In the last two months, I discovered that it is possible to get traffic even writing about South Asian business and economy. All I need is to be regular, dedicated and give my best effort. This experience has given a lot of boost to my confidence.
I discovered one thing that when you make a come back to blogging after a long illness then the first thing you suffer from is mental strength. I never have shortage of it and I like to feel that compared to the average people, I have stronger will power.
Still, I feel a bit shaky and I lack mental strength to write in the blog. However, I have to try and things will be all right after few days of trying. They always get brighter and God has really helped me at the right moment. Yes, I have noticed when things become darkest and all hopes get lost then bright time comes. So, I am again hopeful about this blog.
In the end, I like to thank each and everyone of you for your support and I like to specially thank the Feedburner Subscribers, Blog followers and returning visitors. In the last two months, the blog received nearly 200 comments. I like to thank all the people for their comments too.
So, back to business as usual for me and this blog.

Apple iPad Tablet PC: No Interest in India?

Today, my fellow blogger, Mehdi Hassan is very busy and he spent many hours to write this entry in another blog: 30 things about Apple iPad tablet PC. Well, I was also curious about this device because it will be perhaps one of the top 3 gadgets of 2010. Anyway, I visited Google Trends India and I was shocked to see that Apple iPad is not the list of most searched topic. It was very odd to me. On the other hand, in Google trends USA, people are just searching about it.
I think that the main reason for this lack of interest is that it has not been launched in India yet. Secondly, its price range in USA is from $499-$829 and it is too much expensive for average Indian consumers. So, it will not be a popular gadget in India and we saw the same thing about iPhone. I don’t think that Apple is going to give any subsidy for iPads in India or in other countries of South Asia.
iPad tablet PC can become an useful tool for people who browse Internet a lot. I wish I can get one some day.

Evergreen Entries: How they can help your Blog?

Yesterday, I wrote about evergreen entries and if you have read that entry then you must know that by evergreen entries I meant that kind of topics that are always fresh and you can always read and write about them. On other words, they never lose relevance and they are not time based. I also wrote that these kinds of entries are popular among many bloggers for different reasons. In this entry, I am going to talk about the main reasons of the popularity and the good sides.

Before anything, let us talk about the problems of evergreen entries. The first problem you have to face is that you have to give a lot of time to write them and sometimes, it may take ten or fifteen hours or even more than that to write a really quality entry. In Blogging, most of the time, we can not sell out writing and in stead we have to depend on getting tragic and page views. So, spending an entire day sometimes is not economically feasible for many of the bloggers.

Especially if you live in a Western country and you have to earn a lot of money just to have a middle class life style then it can become a problem to give so many hours. The second problem is that they do not bring traffic in a very short time. In fact, you have to be very patient with evergreen entries. It takes a lot of time and some people really can not afford to have this patience. Well, I do not blame them because I am also like them in some ways and like others I want, a lot of traffic in a short time but after years of experience in Blogging I have realized that Blogging simply does not work that way.
Now, I am going to talk about how evergreen entries can help your blog and your blogging career. The first thing that can happen when you focus on writing quality evergreen entries is that they will help you to make you famous. They are very easy to bring a brand name for your blog and for you as an expert blogger. Here, I like to talk about the example of Problogger that Darren Rowse who had many blogs in the past. I remember that he had a number of blogs on different topics like digital camera review, printers, camera phone review etc. However, these days I find him focusing on two or three blogs: Problogger and Digital Photography School. These two blogs consists of mainly quality entries and because of his effort for quality, the Problogger have more than one hundred thousand Feedburner subscribers. This is quite amazing. Another shining example is Steve Pavlina.
Evergreen entries are always helpful in getting links from other blogs and websites. When you are blogging, this is a very important factor in everyway. If others link your entries then you always get some traffic but more than that your blogs become more powerful in search engines. Especially Google gives a lot of value to backlinks. In the past, I have noticed that when I wrote evergreen entries, I got links from very respectable websites and blogs. This is very helpful if you are a new blogger. When you are a new blogger then it is very difficult to get links from others. I have also noticed that if you write quality article then some bloggers and websites will happily link to you and even if you may not know about it unless you search in Google.
Evergreen entries are also attractive for social book marking sites like Digg, Reddit, Fark. I remember that once, one of my blog entries received 40,000 page views in just 24 hours when it hit the front page of Fark. Some people even get one hundred thousand page views in a day if they can make into the home page of Digg and get enough votes. When you write a good entry then its possibility of getting featured in a popular book marking site only increases.
Many people think that evergreen entries will not increase your traffic. I agree with them that these entries will not boost your traffic all of a sudden and you have to be very patient. I have already said about this matter that this is one of the draw backs of evergreen entries. However, it is not true that there will be no benefit as far as getting traffic is concerned.
In fact, when you write a long entry and quality entry which is time less it will get traffic from many key words. Sometimes you will get from key words that you even could not imagine. It happens to me and others bloggers all the time.
These types of entries are always good for getting more comments and some people would like to discuss about it. One of the entries written by my co-blogger Biplob Kishore Deb generated more than 120 comments and many of there were very annoyed with him because of his selection of animation movies. Many of them did not agree with his view and they were not shy to let their views be known.
When you are blogging then perhaps one of the dreams that you have in your heart is to get more and more comments. Evergreen entries can help you to get more comments and started discussion in your blog.
Again I like to come back to the point about traffic. Evergreen entries will help you to get regular traffic on some entries. I could successfully implement this matter in one of my blogs Techtainment in which we wrote some evergreen entries and they still bring traffic for us and although these days we do not update regularly or we don’t give so much important to it. Still, we get everyday more than 1200 page views. This is quite a good traffic if an old blog brings regularly without much effort.
In conclusion, I like to say that if you are a blogger and if you want to become successful in this field then you should always consider writing some evergreen entries on a regular basis.

Sri Lanka President Election 2010: Will Peace Come at Last?

The result of Presidential election 2010 of Sri Lanka has been announced less than one hour ago. According to the official result, the current president Mahinda Rajapaksa has become the winner by securing nearly 60% of the votes. His main opponent was General Sarath Fonseka who got nearly 40% of the votes. After the result of the election was announced, there is some kind of uncertainty in Sri Lankan capital and other parts of the country. The opposition parties are unhappy and opposition leaders have already rejected the result by alleging fraud in the election. Independent Observers have said the election was fair but with some serious problems or questions unanswered. The hotel that General Sarath Fonseka is now staying has been surrounded by some troops belonging to Army, Navy and Air force. International media is reporting about this matter with a lot of importance.
The supporters of the president Mahinda Rajapaksa are now celebrating in different parts of the country. Many of them have come to the street and are expressing their joy and they are very happy with this result and they feel that the people have voted for him because this president could ensure peace for the country. Only a few months ago, Sri Lankan army could crash Tamil rebellion in the North of the country.
On the other hand, the opposition leaders are very unhappy and they have already rejected the election result. They are stating that the will of the people have not been reflected in the election result. In fact, General Sarath Fonseka has announced that he would challenge the result in the court and he will fight a legal battle for this election.
The run up to the election was not peaceful as some people died in violent clashes. I have to say that the number of deaths is not that much compared to many third world countries but it was still an uneasy environment for the people. Some reports suggested that in some areas, intimidation was used and some people belonging to the minority voters could not go to vote. So, whether it was a violent or peaceful campaign there is no doubt that the run up to the election was full of problems and bitterness. The two candidates accused each other of serious matters. For example, the opposition leader constantly accused of corruption against the current president and his allies.
Although General Sarath Fonseka has stated that he will go to court and fight a legal battle but I am sure that this problem will not remain limited only in the court room. I am expecting to see street battles or political movements by the combined opposition parties against ruling government in the next few months. In fact, the election became so bitter that I am worried about the future of Sri Lankan economy. I feel that the time for political instability is going to start in the country.
When the problem of Tamil rebellion finished a few months ago, there was a lot of optimism that the country see a new beginning and things will totally become peaceful. However, the election just showed how divided public opinions in Sri Lanka is. Even if you are ready to accept all the accusations of General Sarath Fonseka, there is still a lot of popular support for the current president Mahinda Rajapaksa. So, the entire populations are divided and this can not be good for the economy. Instability is always bad for economy and we have seen these problems in another neighboring country Nepal. Nepal is also a beautiful country in South Asia and it has a lot of potential in the tourism sector just like Sri Lanka. However, political fighting has totally destroyed the Nepalese economy and Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world.
I am afraid for Sri Lankan economy for the same problem. Recently, an influential media of USA announced Sri Lanka to be the most attractive place to visit 2010. So, the tourism sector of this country should get a lot of boost in this year but if political problem starts then the tourism sector will surely suffer. If instability comes again then the Sri Lankan government will become weak and I will not be surprised to see the Tamil problem again becoming a major problem for the country. Of course, in 2010, I am not expecting any resurgence of the Tamil problem but if bitterness and political division continues among the majority Sinhalese population, then Tamil problem will come again sooner or later. The reaction of international community is not still clear. As I said, only less than one hour ago the result has been announced and it is perhaps too early to expect official reaction from international community. There is no official reaction from USA or UK yet. There were some independent observers and most probably tomorrow, we will get a better picture of their assessment of the president election 2010.
I hope that Sri Lankan political leaders can sort out their problems and find a common ground. However, I am not hopeful because in many third world countries, political fighting is a very natural matter and in the end, I think that it is ultimately the ordinary people who are to blame for this. They must try to give value to democratic culture and they must become conscious and active in politics. Only then they can exert real pressure on political leaders and political leaders will be forced to work in a peaceful way and thus any real change will come to a country like Sri Lanka.

India Stock Exchange: Time for Course Correction?

For the fifth continuous day, stocks fell in India. In the last 3 months, this is the longest time that this matter happened. In the last few days, we have seen reporting of last quarter results 2009 of different companies. Well, for Indian fiscal year, these results were of the third quarter. Some of the big companies that do that well and was below expectation level.
In 2009, Indian government injected some money in the economy with its stimulus package. Most probably, the government is not going to do that in 2010 and that is why, some investors are worried about the future.
I personally think that it is the time of course correction for Indian share market. The shares of some companies have increased sharply and it is time that things get back to normal.
One good thing is that some of the large government organizations may enter the share market this year and it can further boost the stock exchange in the country.

Volvo Estimates a Three Fold Growth for India’s Luxury Car Market by 2015

India has one of the fastest growing car industries in the world and everybody knows that India is a price-sensitive market where low-priced compact cars are very popular. However, according to Volvo Car Corp., India’s luxury-car market will be tripled by and would account for 1.5 percent of the whole car market by 2015.

This seems to be a surprising statement by Volvo India’s managing director Paul de Voijs, but he has his logic behind it. He thinks that there are lots of rooms for growth for the luxury cars in India. Moreover, Capgemini SA and Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, the number of millionaires in India could be tripled by 2018 thanks to India’s surging economy.

India has the second-fastest growing economy in the world after China and naturally the number of rich people in the country would continue to grow. This is where lies the possibility of growth for the luxury cars in India. Companies like Volvo, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and Daimler AG are planning to launch luxury cars in the country very soon. In fact, Volvo has plans to introduce two luxury cars in India by 2011 and one of the models would be available in Indian market in the first half of the current year. So, it seems that the price-sensitive tag of India’s car market would not restrict the big companies to enter into the Indian market with luxury car models.

Virgin Mobile launched its GSM services in India with Tata Teleservices

On January 21, 2009, Virgin Mobile announced its GSM service in partnership with Tata Teleservices Ltd. The service will initially cover five cities of Southern India including- Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The Pan-India GSM will be completed within the current fiscal year.

Voice calls on Virgin GSM network will cost Rs. 0.20 per minute for local and STD calls made to Virgin Mobile numbers and Rs.0.40 per minute for local calls and Rs.0.50 per minute for STD calls made to other networks.

At the launch event, M. A. Madhusudan, CEO, Virgin Mobile India, said that though subscriber base of mobile phone operators in India is going up, the profit bottomline is under huge pressure. However, the GSM is a big market with lots of opportunities. Every month, GSM operators are adding up around 15 million subscribers half of whom are young people. Virgin Mobile is now looking forward to become the preferred brand for making outgoing calls. Dubbed as “Doston Ka Network” (Network of friends) Virgin Mobile aims to provide services to help its customers get the most out of its friend circle.

Anil Sardana, Managing Director, Tata Teleservices told reporters that their GSM foray with DoCoMo had been well received by subscribers. This prompted the company to launch a new GSM service with Virgin. Tata also invested in additional networks to further reinforce its GSM network. Here are some of the services offered by Virgin Mobile’s GSM network:

vMingle: This service will offer users to stay connected with various social networking sites 24/7. It will be an integrated social networking service and under this service, users will keep in touch with friends at all social networking websites with one single login.

vGenie Service: This service offers birthday reminders, wake-up calls, and social networking updates.

vBelong Service: offers users to make and design their own WAP sites.

Sir Richard Branson, Chairman and Founder, Virgin Group, said that India is the only market where Virgin is present in both GSM and CDMA segment. It is a good decision on Virgin’s part because GSM is more popular in India than CDMA. According to TRAI, at the end of September 2009, there were 371 million subscribers under GSM compared to 101 million subscribers under CDMA networks.

Virgin mobile company, is a subsidy of billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin communications. The company entered the Indian market in March 2008. A youth oriented mobile company, Virgin targeted young people between 14 and 25 years. It offers a wide range of services including music, news, Bollywood movies, sports etc. Virgin Mobile already gained popularity for its Value Added Services like “get talktime for incoming calls.” The company’s “Think Hatke” ad campaign also became very popular.

To promote its new network, Virgin Mobile hired famous Bollywood couple, Shahid Kapoor and Genelia D’souza. Last week, Shahid Kapoor and Genelia starrer Chance Pe Dance was released in theatres and the movie became immensely popular. Shahid Kapoor and Genelia looked very beautiful on the screen. Prasad Narasimhan, Chief Marketing Officer, told reporters that the couple beautifully represents their brand. They not only show what Virgin stands for but also what Virgin wants to become in the GSM segment- becoming the ultimate network for friends. Shahid Kapoor is one of the most sought after Bollywood actors today. Genelia D’Souza also has a “next-door fun loving girl” image. The two are a great fit for Virgin brand.

CAT 2009 results: Where to Find?

CAT 2009 results will not be announced today 22 January 2010 and instead, it will be published sometimes in February. So, those of who are searching for CAT 2009 results, will have to wait for another few days. Common Aptitude Test (CAT) is very important for those who want to do MBA. Because of flourishing Indian economy, doing MBA with a good grade from a reputable educational organization can land you into a very good job immediately after finishing the course.
In the official website, it is written:
All candidates identified for the re-test in phase two would have received notice of their eligibility from Prometric by now. They will receive another notification informing them of the time and location for their test by January 23rd, 2010 at the latest. The results of CAT 2009 are likely to be declared by the third week of February 2010.
Equity and fairness requires that candidates who faced disruptions during the test be given an opportunity to complete the test while not requiring those who completed the test successfully to take the test again.

So, the only thing you have to do is to wait.

Veer Movie: Top Reviews in Internet

I was waiting for the movie “Veer” for Zarine Khan more than Salman Khan. So, any review that I want to see in Internet, I wish that they talks more about Zarine Khan. In the past, we have seen that when a Salman Khan movie becomes a super hit then for one reason or another the actress opposite of him falls to obscurity. Veer may have the same fate.
Maine Pyar Kiya was a smashing success and it launched the career of Salman but hardly anyone perhaps remembers the actress Bhagyashree. Chandni of  Sanam Bewafa is now lost to obscurity. Even a better example is Bhumika Chawla who caught the attention of almost everyone with 2003 but she now acts mainly in other film industries rather than Bollywood. So, I am waiting to see whether Veer becomes a super hit film for Salman Kan but it brings nothing for Zarine Khan.
Today is the day of Release for Veer and it will take another few hours for us to get the reviews. I am going to mention here about some of the top reviews of this movie that you can find in Internet. So, come back in the evening to this entry and you can find some useful tings about Veer Movie review.

Salman Khan’s historical action movie SUCKS! This is the simplest summary of all the critics of Veer. Here are some more from various reviews:

ibnlive says:
I'm going with two out of five for director Anil Sharma's Veer. Watch it if you're a die-hard Salman fan. It's an epic-sized period film with tacky special effects.

And yet in trying so hard to win acclaim and scale, the film goes all over the place - *Gladiator, Troy, Braveheart* - complicating matters for its easy viewers.

In a scene from the film, Salman Khan fractures his leg and limps almost for one full reel. But in real life, one can say Salman ne apne hi paav par kulhadi maar lee (hit the axe on his own leg). The ordinary story he pens doesn’t do justice to the immense intensity he adds to his performance. Salman is marred and let down by his own self.

You will find such negative comments in all the reviews. The Veer is a movie that is made on a grand scale but due to poor story, nonsense narration and Salman Khan’s excessive presence ruined the movie. Veer tells the story of a warrior clan, the Pindharis, who swears to take revenge on the King of Madhavgarh (Jackie Shroff) for he joined the British, removes the Pindharis from their lands and kills their men. Prithvi Singh (Mithun Chakraborty) who is the head of the tribe, sends his two sons-Veer (Salman Khan) and Punya (Sohail Khan) to London to know the British. There Veer meets Princess Yashodhara (Zarine Khan), the daughter of the King of Madhavgarh and the two falls in love. The actors also failed to portray their characters properly as Salman Khan was omnipresent all over. All except Mithun Chakraborthy who stands out for his role. As for Salman Khan, he carries the movie well on his shoulder. He has the physique to play the character of a warrior and he did very well but the movie is like Salman worship and that is why it fails miserably.

Wipro Increases 21% in third quarter of 2009-10

If you know about Indian economy then perhaps you already know that the fiscal year is counted from 1 April to 30 March. Thus, we are getting the results of 3rd quarters for the major companies. Earlier today, Wipro announced that its profit increased by 21% compared to the same time of last fiscal year. It is an IT outsourcing company and perhaps the good gain happened because of improving condition in countries like USA. A year ago, in the 3rd quarter of the previous fiscal year, the global economy was suffering from recession. So, things are getting better for the company.
Hindustan Times reported:
It painted an optimistic outlook for the quarters ahead, aided by new markets and more hiring.
“We have seen a positive demand environment which has driven broad based sequential growth across all verticals, service lines and geographies,” Wipro chairman Azim Premji said.
He said the company expects IT budgets among customers to remain marginally positive to flat.
Wipro expects its IT services revenue to rise 3.6-5.4 per cent in January-March from the previous quarter to $1.16-$1.18 billion.

This results of Wipro are perhaps an indication that things may get better for the outsourcing industry of India in 2010. In the next 2-3 days, there will be announcements from other major companies in IT and mobile phone sectors.
