Tri Nation Series 2010 in Bangladesh without Sachin Tendulkar

Indian selectors have already announced a 16-man squad for the upcoming tri-nation tournament which will start from January 5, 2010. Indian player Sachin Tendulkar is one of the big changes in this squad. He will take rest from the ODI format of cricket game. Sachin Tendulkar has opted out his name from squad. So, we can not see him to play against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in this tournament. However, he will be replaced either with Rohit Sharma or Dinesh Karthik. Tendulkar will make his return with the two-match test series against Bangladesh.

Players like Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar and Pragyan Ojha have been left out of the tour. Yuvraj Singh will return after recovering from finger injury. Pace bowler Sreesanth who was suffering from swine flu virus is now fully fit.

Sachin Tendulkar is now 36-year-old. It is much older age for any player. Let see how long he can contineu his career.

Asking Sachin Tendulkar to Fill in for Virender Sehwag: Is it Justifiable?

It is a bit strange to ask Sachin Tendulkar to fill up the gap of Virender Sehwag. Sehwag is missing Champions trophy as he has not recovered his shoulder injury yet and his absence is considered as a big blow to the Indian camp. In his absence, there is no body who can create the fear factor at the top order of Indian batting line up. His ability of scoring quickly can steal the show and break the morale of the opposition bowler at the beginning of the innings. Naturally, India will severely feel his absence during Champions trophy as they did during Twenty20 world cup where India performed poorly.

India media is claiming that Sachin Tendulkar will fill up the void left by Sehwag. Well, first of all, the idea of Sachin Tendulkar filling in for Sehwag is strange and baseless. Sachin Tendulkar is a legend of Indian cricket and he has helped India win many matches throughout his illustrious career. Tendulkar was no less attacking in his prime days than Sehwag is now.

At this moment, Tendulkar takes a more responsible role at the top order and now-a-days, he occasionally goes down the wicket against the bowlers in the initial overs. It is very natural because he is now in his mid 30s and he has already seen his prime days. Don’t take me wrong here. Tendulkar is still an influential batsman and capable of winning matches for India. However, it does not mean that he now has to fill up the gap of Sehwag. I think, it would not be humiliating for Tendulkar to ask him to take up the role of Sehwag because Tendulkar has already made his own territory of greatness.

Sachin Tendulkar Scored 44th Century in ODI in Compaq Cup 2009 Final

Star Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar hit another ODI century on Monday, and thus, taking his century tally in ODI to 44. The master blaster was instrumental behind India’s 46-run victory against Sri Lanka in the Compaq Cup final.

India got a good start to their innings thanks to two openers Tendulkar and Dravid, specially the former. On his way to 138 off 133 balls, Sachin guided India to reach 319 for 5 after 50 overs. The veteran hit 10 fours and a six during his magnificent innings. During his innings, he built three crucial partnerships with Dravid, Dhoni and Yuvraj before getting out off Mendis in the 46th over of Indian innings.

Highest run scorer of ODI and Test cricket, Sachin has highest number of centuries in both test and ODI forms of the game. It has been a long time, the batsman is competing with himself. There is no one who could catch him in the near future. Overall, Sachin has 86 centuries combined in ODI and test cricket and I would not be surprised if he can reach the mark of 100 centuries in international cricket by the time he would hang up the boots.
