Title: Blue Hindi movie

Producer: Dhillin Mehta

Director: Anthony D'Souza

Cast:

Sanjay Dutt...... Sagar

Akshay Kumar...... Aarav

Katrina Kaif...... Nikki

Lara Dutta...... Mona

Rahul Dev...... Gulshan

Zayed Khan...... Sam

Kabir Bedi

Kylie Minogue

Characters:

  • Sagar: Sagar is an excellent deep sea diver but he has a troubled past. A straight forward person, Sagar works for his friend Aarav and dreams to have his own boat someday. Sagar has a girlfriend named Mona (Lara Dutta).
  • Aarav: A rich, arrogant man, Aarav is the owner of Blue Shipping and Industries. He always likes to take big risks and hates the idea of losing. Aarav always badgers Sagar to search for the treasure.
  • Sam: Sam is the younger estranged brother of Sagar. A confident and arrogant man Sam has one passion in life and that is bikes. Sam used to live in Bangkok where he accidentally gets into trouble with a mafia drug lord (Rahul Dev) and flees to his ancestral home in the Bahamas.
  • Mona: Mona (Lara Dutta) is Sagar’s girlfriend and a marine enthusiast. She always loves and support Sagar.
Story:

The story of Blue Hindi movie takes place at the Bahamas. In 1949, a ship named “Lady in Blue” sunk in the sea of Bahamas. The ship was carrying large amount of gold treasure. Sagar works for Aarav, who always badgers him to go and find the gold of the “Lady in Blue.” Sagar on the contrary, does not want to talk about it. He is a happy-go-lucky guy who loves Mona and dreams to have his own boat someday. Everything changes, when Sagar’s estranged brother, Sam comes to the Bahamas with Mafia boss, Gulshan (Rahul Dev) is hot on his trail for an assignment worth 50 million dollars has gone wrong. Gulshan then kidnaps Mona and then tells Sagar to return the money within twenty four hours. He has no options but to go for the treasure of the “Lady in Blue.”

About the movie:

According to Taran Adarsh, Blue Hindi movie is an out-and-out entertainer, a perfect present for your Diwali. Go to the theatres, get a ticket and enjoy the movie. Yes, it is true that the story is taken from a Hollywood movie but ignore that you will see that Blue Hindi movie is something that has never been tried before in Hindi cinema. Kudos to Anthony D’Souza, the director scored aces in his first movie. It takes a lot of courage and determination to pull off such a thing. Not only Blue Hindi movie is a big-budget movie but also stars Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt; two most respected actors in Bollywood. Blue is very well-made entertaining movie. His only complain is that the climax could have been handled better.

The best thing about the movie is its camera work and action sequences. Bollywood Hungama says:

Anthony's expertise comes to the fore in several sequences. One sequence that needs to be singled out is when Sanju narrates the tragic past, how he was responsible for his father's death. It's simply incredible!

Major portions of the film have been filmed in the ocean and you can't stop admiring and appreciating the enormous contribution of the underwater cinematographer [Pete Zuccarini]. The lighting in those sequences deserves special mention. Also, the underwater sequences, which feature aquatic life like puffer fish, stingrays and sharks, hold tremendous appeal. Cinematography [Laxman Utekar] is gorgeous.

Glamsham gives Blue Hindi movie 1 out of five. It says that the movie is the biggest disaster of the year. The movie has no substance, script or dialogue. It further says:

The first hour is a drag, the following is even worse. The first scene itself is an indication of what is in store. Dutt and Akshay play with a shark! No, in fact they are shooing it away from their net! However, you wait patiently because the promos have been convincing. They then get into the boxing ring. There is no respite. From here, it moves from one weird scene to another.

As for the story, go figure it out. I'm still trying to figure out what was in the bag that cost 50 million dollars. Worse, I can't for the life of me fathom why Zayed Khan did not look into the bag, the size of a lap top case, which Rahul Dev gave him to deliver to another person for a fee of 50,000 Dollars.

Indiaserver.com says that Blue Hindi movie is an “OK” movie. The five underwater action sequences and three bike action are something unique for a Hindi movie. It further says:

Even though it is not a movie which falls into the category of mind-blowing commercial action thriller, I agree to the fact that it definitely offers something which is truly innovative and unique.

Even though the storyline is a very blurred one, the action-packed movie never allows the audience to feel its absence. The USP of the movie is the perfect blend of action and an unknown world.

Thaindian News gives Blue Hindi movie a rating of 1.5 out of 5. It says that the movie has poor direction and script. The movie lacks substance and “coolness quotient.” If you are looking forward to see some well shot underwater photography and cool action sequences then you can go for it. It further says:

A really interesting premise shot beautifully but messed big time by unimaginative writing and lackluster direction is what Blue shall always be remembered as. The setting is different no doubt, but where are the requisite twists and turns and pace which are a must for this genre of films? The so called major twist that comes out in the end can be guessed quiet earlier in the first half itself. Also, almost the entire first half moves around with zero grip on the audience with more than enough time wasted on character establishment. The much hyped shark sequences are a big let down what with barring the opening sequence of few minutes (where believe it or not Akshay and Dutt literally ride a shark) there is not a single scene where the sharks are a threat and get you on the edge of your seat. The bike chase sequences have been shot very well though. The underwater sequences have been superbly lit up and one needs to salute the team of cameramen involved for it. The climax is extremely “thanda’ and derives unintentional laughter as well. Songs don’t really fit in well and the Kylie Minogue starring Chiggy Wiggy number doesn’t really work on screen. However, the background music and sound editing is excellent.

Stardust gives Blue Hindi movie a three star rating. It says:

The direction of Anthony D’souza shows spark of genius in his first outing. He shows his commitment and grand vision in aquatic sequences, which must have been very difficult to shoot. The bike chase sequence and the other chase sequence on the running train are worth mentioning in this regard.

It must have taken a lot of courage from Anthony D’souza to envisage a marine action thriller on a scale which has never been done in bollywood so far. Even his handling of emotional sequence (Sanju relating his past) is very good. But climax needed some more punch from the director and could have been more impressive.

So far, this is the most negative review of the movie is given by Economic Times. It said that the large amount of money spent on the movie is a total waste. It further says:

In absence of a sane screenplay, the viewer is subjected to burnout action sequences and bike chases. By the time the oceanic treasure-hunt initiates in the climax, you see blue since the film is 'in deep water'. Sadly the authentic aquatic life is put to no active use as even the sharks seem to be harmlessly herbivorous. Rather the regular hero-villain combats are replicated in the oceans to no groundbreaking effect with the marine life playing passive spectators to the proceedings.

Mayur Puri's casual conversational dialogues sans any cinematic significance and the minimal background score fail to induce depth to the drama. The supposed suspense in the narrative is almost obvious from the start. A R Rahman's musical score is plain passable this time. The art design by Narendra Rahurikar is decent. Laxman Utekar's cinematography is fascinating as he captures the Bahamas beaches beautifully in his lens and uses effective close up frames on the cast. Designer Rina Dhaka deserves special mention for styling Lara Dutta at her sexiest best in those white, red, pink and bejeweled bikinis.

Performance:

In terms of performance, Blue Hindi movie is nothing extraordinary but not disastrous either. Bollywood Hungama says:

Sanjay Dutt carries his part well, although he looks very well-fed in some scenes. Akshay Kumar steals the show with a sterling performance. This would easily classify amongst his best works. Zayed Khan is highly competent. This, despite the fact that he's sharing the screen space with two hugely experienced actors.

Lara Dutta has never looked so good before. Though the story revolves around the guys, you can't overlook Lara's small but significant contribution to the film. Katrina Kaif [sp. app.] looks gorgeous and performs exceedingly well. The feminine charm [at the start specifically] would send the youth in a frenzy. Rahul Dev is first-rate. Kabir Bedi is hardly there.

Glamsham says:

The quality of the acting is what you would put up in a school play. Akshay Kumar is always dressed like a bandmaster, Sanjay Dutt is left to find his left foot as he struggles to groove to the beat (where was the choreographer?) and Lara Dutta is busy changing into stylish two-piece suits (the skimpy ones) to get underwater. If she is not in her swimming attire, she is busy shaking her body like a girl lost in a pub. As for Zayed Khan, he gives one the feeling that he is hanging around with a bunch of his school buddies. Oh yes, somewhere along the way Katrina Kaif also shows up with Rahul Dev. There's also Kylie Minogue. Did she know what she was getting into? I'm sure, she too is feeling blue!

BLUE is a picnic in the Bahamas for the cast and crew. I guess director Anthony D'Souza told the cast, 'Just get in front of the camera and do whatever you want.' All four are very unconvincing and you can even see them squirm in some scenes. Sanjay Dutt, I'm sure, will be hiding his face in his hands if he ever watches this film in its complete state. Never has he ever been so bored in a role.

Stardust says:

Akshay Kumar, who plays the character of a rich and ambitious businessman Aarav, has given a superlative performance. His underwater daredevilry is just unmatched and makes him stands out amongst the macho bunch of bollywood biggies. He looks completely in control of the situation and never overacts.

Sanjay Dutt, who plays the part of Akshay’s friend and employee, Sagar, performs his part with consummate ease. Sanjay is superb, where he relates story about his father’s death and his past trauma due to that. However, a little bit of trimming of his body would have shown him in more favorable light as a deep sea diving expert.

Zayed Khan, who plays the younger brother Sameer (Sam) of Sanjay Dutt, looks perfect for the part. His love for the bikes looks natural for his personality and age as shown in the flick. Zayed is able to hold his own ground even before Akki and Sanju in the film.

Rahul Dev, who plays the character of drug lord in the film, has portrays his character with requisite cruelness and villainous flavor. The audience would love to hate him.

DNA says:

For the actor himself, the film is a new low. Every time you step in to watch a Kumar film now, you are expecting something nonsensical, but you hope it at least entertains you in the bargain. After disappointing you every time in his last - we've lost count now - few films, this one just makes you hope that he'll finally realise that a film also needs a script!

Sanjay Dutt looks bloated, and no effort goes into ensuring that the paunch is somewhat hidden. He, however, puts in a decent effort. Zayed Khan is as far from being cool as the amount of effort he puts into looking it. Lara Dutta provides the appropriate eye candy to save the film from being a complete washout.

Conclusion:

In simple words, Blue Hindi movie may not be something extra-ordinary but it is very much enjoyable for its underwater scenes and beautifully shot action sequences.

Katrina Kaif gets more publicity in Blue Hindi movie

Initially, Katrina Kaif was supposed to do an item song for Blue Hindi movie but then, her presence was extended. Katrina Kaif was paired up Zayed Khan in the movie. Cuurently, the top actress of Bollywood, Katrina Kaif was offered a whopping Rs. 1.5crore for the item number. While shooting the movie, her role was further extended. News reports also said that Katrina Kaif shot the item number within ten days.

Initially, the producers did not inform Lara Dutta of Katrina Kaif’s role extension. Akshay Kumar was instrumental to bring in Katrina Kaif into the movie. Real Bollywood.com says:

“Katrina was a last minute addition to the film reportedly on recommendation of good friend Akshay Kumar who is amongst the three male leads of the film along with Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan. Apart from a lavish song a few scenes too were shot on her. But as reports have began pouring out that her role has increased since she enjoys a bigger star status, Lara is feeling mighty insecure.

After looking at the rough cut of the first teaser of the movie, Lara was miffed with the producer because Katrina Kaif had more footage in the promo than Lara Dutta. In addition, Kylie Minogue’s song ‘Chiggy Wiggy’ is being played every where and it is already very popular. The producer has another explanation for this action. Since Lara is the female lead in the movie, they do not want to give out too much of her in the promo. More over, there were not too many chick scenes which led to giving more footage to Katrina Kaif.

Lara was paired up with Sanjay Dutt but Sanjay had not much interest in the movie and he did not have a very good relationship with Anthony D’Souza. Hence, the director always turned to Akshay Kumar for advice and it was his idea to give more footage to Katrina Kaif. More over, Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif share a great chemistry onscreen and they have few hit movies together. So, the two are going to get more publicity.

Same thing happened in Billu Barber where Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra had all the publicity despite Lara Dutta being the leading lady.

Kylie Minogue introduces herself to India with Blue Hindi movie

Australian pop singer and actress, Kylie Minogue, may be very popular in Europe and the U.S but she is not so well known in Asian countries. As Bollywood movies are very popular in South Asian countries, working in Blue Hindi movie is a great way to launch herself in the region. However, the singer was not cheap to get. The producers of Blue Hindi movie had to pay her Rs.50 million. Upon coming to India, the singer was surrounded by dozens of bodyguards and bouncers. Her security arrangements cost another Rs.2,50,000. Anthony D’Souza is also very happy with Kylie Minogue. He said:

"Kylie was completely a director's actor. She did what was required of her. She reached the sets ready on the dot; she threw no tantrums and was a delight to work with….She is essentially playing herself in the film. She has shot with us for six days to finish her part,"

Famous Bollywood choreographer and director Farah Khan, choreographed Kylie Minogue’s song, ‘Chiggy Wiggy.’ The song is picturised on Akshay Kumar and Kylie and already it has become very popular among the youth. Here is the video clip of Kylie Minogue’s song with Akshay Kumar.

Lara Dutta gets less publicity in Blue Hindi movie

Blue Hindi movie poster

In Blue Hindi movie, actress Lara Dutta will be seen donning a bikini. To look gorgeous in bikini, the actress had to lose all the extra fats. The producer of the movie gave her five months to shape up.

Lara Dutta plays the role of ‘Mona,’ Sanjay Dutt’s girlfriend. Prior to this movie, Lara did not even know how to swim. For the movie, she had to learn deep-sea scuba diving in Mauritius. However, another news report said that since January 2008, Lara Dutta started training in swimming and underwater diving for four hours daily. She trained under a national team swimming coach. She then attended a professional diving course in Thailand. Lara Dutta also trained at Watson Fitness under Zarine Watson to tone up her muscles.

Prior to the shooting of Blue Hindi movie, Lara Dutta had a knee injury and she was supposed to participate at ‘The Unforgettable Tour’ and perform with the Bachchans but she did not go because she wanted to recover from her injury so that she can shoot for Blue Hindi movie.

In Blue Hindi movie, Lara Dutta set the screen on fire with her gorgeous looks and it cost the producer huge amount of money. As there were many underwater sequences, Lara Dutta had to wear special water-resistant make-ups and for that, famous Hollywood make-up artists, Nikoletta Skarlatos and Clarabelle Saldhana, were roped in. Nikoletta Skarlatos worked with Keira Knightley in Pirates of Caribbean. And now, every body is seeing the results. Lara Dutta enjoyed very much working Nikoletta and picked up lots of make-up techniques from her. Working for Blue Hindi movie Nikoletta also became a big fan of Bollywood movies.

Lara Dutta is all praise for Akshay Kumar as the actor always motivated her to do the action sequences in the movie. He always motivated her to push her limits. Lara loved working with him. It was Akshay Kumar who along with Katrina Kaif, also suggested Lara Dutta’s name to the director.

Shooting in the Bahamas was a very enjoyable experience for Lara Dutta. She said:

“The experience of shooting in Bahamas is quite magnificent and the place is like heaven on earth. The sea is just so serene and pure. Each day is like a new experience and the vista never feels jaded. We have caught the most marvelous shots on camera and our audiences will be amazed as it won’t be like anything that they have seen before.”

In the movie, a romantic song, 'Aaj Dil Gustak Hai was picturised on Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutta. A good part of the song was shot under water where Sanjay and Lara played with trained dolphins. The sequence was shot in Bimini Islands and the two actors enjoyed it very much. Even after the shot was finished the two played with the dolphins for some time.

Zayed Khan replaced John Abraham in Blue Hindi movie

Actor Zayed Khan is a certified scuba diver but even he had difficult times while shooting the under water scenes with sharks in Blue Hindi movie. He said:

"Just the idea of swimming around with these unpredictable beasts (sharks) was difficult. We always had our trainers and divers around… When you train as a student, you go till a maximum of 35-40 feet. But when we trained for the film, we had to dive down to 85-90 feet deep enough to get actual shots of weed and sunken ships. It was scary"
Zayed Khan played the role of Sam, one of the three friends, who has a knack for getting into troubles. Sam used to live in Bangkok but he got into trouble over there and escaped to the Bahamas where he meets Aarav (Akshay Kumar) and Sagar (Sanjay Dutt).

For the role of Sam, Anthony D’Souza’s first choice was John Abraham. It was John who sent Anthony D’Souza to Ashtavinayak. After hearing the script, they took him. However, John could not give dates due to his prior commitments.

To Zayed Khan, the stuntmen of the Blue Hindi movie were the real heroes. They made the whole thing look so easy because they have a way of dealing with fear. The stuntmen first made Zayed Khan to touch the sharks and then prepared him to do the fight sequences while being surrounded by the sharks. Everything was done very carefully. Some times, the stuntmen used to ask him about his favorite songs and seconds later, he could hear them through a device fixed in his ears under water. For instance, once he told them that he wanted to hear Eminem and within seconds he could hear it and so could other stuntmen and divers. The whole setting, though risky, was very much enjoyable like walking on the moon.

Blue Hindi movie trivia

Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif starrer Blue Hindi movie is coming this Diwali. Already, I wrote a post on Blue Hindi movie song download and other information. Here are some more interesting facts you would like to know about the movie:

  • Blue Hindi movie is directed by Anthony D'Souza. It is his first movie as a director. Anthony D’Souza came from ad making background. He even shot one episode of the popular TV series, “Ripley's Believe It Or Not.”
  • After Samraat and Aatank, Blue Hindi movie is the third under-water action thriller of Bollywood. It has under water scenes for around 20-25 minutes.
  • Blue Hindi movie is written by two American writers- Joshua Lurie and Bryan M. Sullivan.
  • Famous Australian pop singer, song writer and actress, Kylie Minogue, made a guest appearance in the movie. She performed an item song, ‘Chiggy Wiggy,’ with Akshay Kumar. Already the song has become very popular among the youth audience.
  • The music of Blue Hindi movie is composed by famous Indian music maestro, A.R. Rahman, who also composed the music of Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire.
  • Blue Hindi movie tells the story of a hidden treasure lying 250 feet below the Pacific Ocean guarded by sharks. Three friends- Aarav (Akshay Kumar), Sagar (Sanjay Dutt) and Sam (Zayed Khan)- try to get the treasure but one of them betrays the group.
  • Blue Hindi movie is one of the most expensive Bollywood movies ever made with a budget of Rs. 1.29 billion.
  • Famous Hollywood cinematographer, Pete Zuccarini, who worked in movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, Deep Blue Sea, was hired to shoot the underwater sequence.
  • James Bomalick, who choreographed the action sequences of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull, was hired to choreograph the action scenes of the movie.
  • Like it or not, Blue Hindi movie is inspired by Hollywood movies. So far, I found three movies that are related to Blue Hindi movie - Into the Blue (2005), starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba; The Deep (1977) starring Robert Shaw, Jacqueline Bisset and Nick Nolte; and Torque (2004) starring Martin Henderson, Ice Cube and Monet Mazur. The story of Blue Hindi movie is related to the former two while the bike action sequences were taken from the later. Even Anthony D’Souza admitted that Blue Hindi movie is inspired by The Deep.
  • The shooting of Blue Hindi movie started in 2008. Majority of the shootings were done in Bangkok and the Bahamas. A small portion of the movie was shot in India in the beginning of 2009.
  • In the Bahamas, some of the underwater sequences of Blue Hindi movie were filmed around a real sunken ship. The crew shot the movie for sixty days in deep sea of the Bahamas. For fifteen days, the crew rehearsed and they shot the movie within forty five days.
  • The actors of Blue Hindi movie had to act while they were being surrounded by sharks. There were forty sharks including hammer-heads, reef sharks, great whites, manta rays and eels. Reef sharks are very gentle and easy to shoot with. The great white sharks, that are 15 to 18 feet long, are the most dangerous sharks. For Anthony D’Souza, shooting with the sharks were the scariest part. All the necessary precautions were taken. There were shark handlers who remained with the crew all the time. The producers also brought international action directors and choreographers for shooting as they had prior experience of shooting in that area.
  • While shooting under water, the actors were always surrounded by safety divers. They used to be at ten meters distance while scenes were being shot. There were twenty other under water crews.
  • The actors were specially instructed by the trainers not to keep long hair and not to color them blonde as sharks get attracted to white. The actors should not have any cuts on their bodies and if they had, it should be covered properly. If blood comes out from those cuts, it would attract the sharks.
  • In one of the action sequences of the movie, a ship was needed to be blasted. The shot was taking place fifty feet under the sea in the Bahamas. Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar and cameraman, Peter Zuccarini, were present at the spot and all the necessary safety precautions were taken. Sanjay Dutt was apprehensive about shooting the scene but he obliged. Unfortunately, Sanju was right and the explosion went wrong due to “peculiar water condition.” The crew were not prepared for the mishap at all. Thanks to Peter Zuccarini, his quick action saved both Akshay and Sanjay from getting seriously injured. This led Sanjay to blow of his fuse on the set.

Blue Hindi movie MP3 songs download and other information

This Diwali brace yourself for a joyride into the deep of the Pacific ocean. Yes, I am talking about Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd.’s upcoming action-thriller Blue Hindi movie. I just watched trailer of the movie t the official website of Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. I do not know about you guys but one look at the trailer reminded me of two Hollywood movies- Into the Blue and Torque. Into the Blue(2005), starring Paul Walker and Jessica Alba, tells the story of buried treasure under the sea involving two friends and drug dealers. The movie also has a sequel titled in Into the Blue 2: The Reef. The motor cycle action sequences in the woods and jumping in front of the train are very much similar to what you see in Torque(2004), an action movie starring Monet Mazure and Martin Hedersen (Yes, the attractive William Darcy in Bride and Prejudice).
