Slumdog Millionaire shines at the 81st Academy Award Ceremony

Slumdog Millionaire is not just the audience favorite but also Oscar favorite. In the 81st Annual Academy Award held on February 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, California, Slumdog Millionaire won IN eight of the ten categories in which it was nominated. It was a big day for director Danny Boyle and stars of the movie. The movie won Oscars in following categories: Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Achievement in Editing, Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Best Achievement in Sound, Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Writing, AND Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published.

For the Indians, it was also a big day. People all over India, watched the show with great enthusiasm. All the major Indian news channel gave regular updates of the show and when the news casters were announcing after every fifteen minutes, people were shouting and screaming. Everybody was shouting and singing the theme song of the movie, “Jai Ho.” Indian music composer, A.R. Rehman won Oscar for the score “Jai Ho.” Celebration was also observed in A.R.Rahman’s hometown, Chennai. Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, and Rubina Ali, who acted in the movie flew to Hollywood to attend the award ceremony.
