India has the second largest mobile phone market in the world but the problem is that most people in India use mobile phones mainly for speaking and sending text messages that. Nokia India has entered into an agreement with Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) to roll out the services, starting with news and information on agriculture. MSAMB will provide data on commodities from its 291 local mandis (markets), which will delivered over handsets to subscribers in the rural areas, Nokia India Managing Director D Shivakumar said.
There is a plan that Nokia may launch this program in some other states.
