Indian share market observed low for the third straight day

Indian sharemarket did not observe any rise in share prices for the third straight day. Prices of banks, auto and power stocks did poorly while realty sector observed a significant rise. Poor business in other Asian markets also affected the Indian stock market.

The Sensex at BSE opened at 16.335.78 points and ended at 16, 283.49 points, a slip of 69.91 points. Through out the day, the index observed a low of 16,144.7 points and a high of 16,411.14 points. BSE Midcap Index observed a 0.15% rise and BSE Smallcap Index went up by 0.44%. BSE Bankex declined 1.5% per cent, BSE Auto Index slipped 0.94% and BSE Power Index slipped 0.83%. BSE Realty Index advanced 0.88% and BSE Oil&gas Index went up 0.69%.

At BSE companies whose share prices went up were- Ranbaxy Laboratories (3.77%), Jindal Steel (3.66%), Wipro (3.49%), Bharti Airtel (3.44%) and Tata Motors (2.49%).

Companies whose share prices dropped are- Maruti Suzuki (-4.18%), Tata Steel (-3.63%), Suzlon Energy (-3.6%), HDFC (-3.49%), BPCL (-3.43%).

Nifty at the NSE observed an intra-day high of 4867 points and a low of 4784.10 points. It ended at 4826.15 points, a 0.42% decline.

Indian sharemarket August 3, 2009

August 3, 2009 was another big day for the Indian sharemarket. Both Sensex and Nifty observed an unprecedented rise closing at “52 week highs.” This gain was contributed by auto, realty and metal stocks. In the afternoon, when news of gains in the European share market came out, overseas investors tried to strengthen their position in the domestic market.



The Sensex at BSE closed at 15,924.23 points. It rose 253.92 points or 1.62% compared to its previous close. It observed an intra-day high of 15963.36 points which was also the highest in the last 52 weeks and a low of 15,608.40 points. Today at BSE, share prices of 1761 companies advanced while 953 declined.

The BSE Midcap index rose 2.36% and Smallcap index gained 1.74%. BSE auto index rose 4.6%, BSE Realty 4.19% and BSE Metal 3.41%



The Nifty at NSE crossed 4700 level closing at 4711.40 points advancing 74.95 points or 1.62%. It observed an intra day high 4723.30 points which was also the highest in the last 52 weeks.

On the other hand, companies whose share prices dropped are:

Indian share market August 1, 2009

On the first day of August, the Indian share market observed a major upsurge as companies reported better than expected earnings in Asia and the U.S. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 13month high. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange closed above 4600 points. Rise in share prices of oil & gas exploration, banking, FMCG, capital goods, metal and select pharma companies contributed to this upsurge.



At around 14:15 hours IST prices of realty stocks, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Reliance Communication, Hero Honda, SAIL, BPCL and Unitech went down but at the last one hour of the trade their prices went up. The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange went up 282.35 points or 1.83% and closed at 15,670.31 points. It saw an intraday high of 15,732.81 points. The Sensex closed at 15,503.92 points 13 months ago.



The Nifty on the other hand closed at 4636.45 points, 65 points higher compared to its previous close. It saw an intra-day high of 4669.75 points. Shares of Tata Motors increased 13% after it reported 57% growth in net profit for the June quarter to Rs.513.8 crore. Shares of Tata Power increased 11% this week after it reported net profit for the June quarter to Rs. 397 crore. Share prices of TCS, ITC, Hindalco, Wipro, SBI, Tata Steel and HDFC advanced 5-9% each.



In terms of volume of trading, Unitech took over top spot with trades of 538.96 million shares on the BSE and NSE this week. This was followed by Suzlon (354 million), Ispat Industries (290 million), IFCI (230 million), Mahindra Satyam (229 million) shares.



Share prices of Hero Honda dipped 7.5%. Sun Pharma went down 6%. Share prices of Grasim Industries, Reliance Industries, Sterlite and Bharti Airtel shed 1-3% each.

India share market on July 28 2009

Today at the Bombay Stock Exchange share prices of 1,709 companies advanced while 645 declined. Sensex closed at 15,331.94 points. It observed an intra-day high of 15,463.46 points and a low of 15,240.53 points. Compared to yesterday’s close, it went down by 0.28% or 43.1 points.



The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange on the other hand closed at 4564.10 points which was 0.18% or 8.2 points lower compared to yesterday’s closing. The Nifty observed an intra-day high of 4599.90 points and a low of 4529.15 points.



The BSE Midcap Index advanced 1.13% and BSE Smallcap Index 1.68%. BSE Realty Index advanced 4.64% after the interest rates were lowered for housing loans. BSE Auto Index advanced 1.92% which was led by Tata Motors as the company reported higher-than-expected earning in the April-June quarter. Share prices of Tata Motors increased by 10.47% followed by Reliance Infrastructure (3.91%), DLF (3.4%), Reliance Communications (2.98%) and Maruti Suzuki (2.84%).



Companies whose share prices fell today are:

Hindustan Unilever decreased by 7.28%

ICICI Bank 2.37%

Grasim Industries 1.77%

State Bank of India 1.7%

Infosys Technologies 1.51%

India share market July 7 2009

Today, the share market ended with a positive note. On July 6, 2009, the Indian share market saw a massive downfall of indices after the Union Budget was declared. Today, the index went up 127 points.


The Sensex opened at 14,104 points and touched a low of 14,000 in the morning trade. It saw an intra-day high of 14,252 points. It then ended at 14,170 points. The fast moving consumer goods stocks led the gain today. However, the index showed a high volatility due to constant buying and selling of stocks.

In total, shares of 2,630 companies were traded today and out of them, share prices of 1,461 companies declined and 1,071 advanced.

Both the BSE Auto and FMCG indices gained around 4% to 4,635 and 2,401.

On the other hand, the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) index lost 2% to 7,636.


Stocks whose prices went up are:

  • ITC gained 7% to Rs. 211.
  • Jaiprakash Associates surged around 7% to Rs 206.
  • Hero Honda gained more than 5.5% at Rs. 1,437.
  • Mahindra & Mahindra gained over 5.5% at Rs 750.
  • Grasim gained around 5.5% to Rs 2,420.
  • ACC advanced around 5.5% to Rs. 762.
  • Share prices of Maruti and Bharti Airtel moved up 3.5-4.5% each at Rs 1,080 and Rs 811, respectively.
  • Share prices of Larsen & Toubro, ICICI Bank, Reliance Infrastructure and TCS gained over 2% each.


Stocks who prices slipped are:

  • Reliance share prices went down 2% to Rs. 1,855.
  • ONGC share prices slipped 2% to Rs. 1,050.
  • Share prices of Reliance Communications, Tata Motors, Infosys and SBI also went down at BSE.

The Nifty on the National Stock Exchange went up 0.88% to 4,202.15 points. It touched an intra-day high of 4,231.80 points and a low of 4,155.50 points.

India share market July 6 2009

On July 6, 2009, the first budget of the new Indian government has been given out and it negatively affected the Indian share market. The sharemarket observed the biggest drop in the last six months. However, analysts and various business organizations expressed their satisfaction over the new budget. One of the prominent features of the new budget is that it focused more on the rural India.At the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex lost 870 points and closed at 14,043 points, a 5.83% decline. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange went down 5.84% to 4165.70 points.



IT stocks took a nose dive in the share market. The BSE IT index went down 2.74% at 3236.33 points while CNX IT lost 114.75 points ending at 3430.55 points. In the budget Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee focused on “inclusive growth driven by IT.”



Bank, realty, capital good and metal stocks fell sharply in the share market today. The BSE Bankex plummeted 8.2% as the fiscal deficit pushed the bond yield.Shares of IndusInd Bank, ICIC Bank and IDBI, fell more than 9%. The BSE realty index fell 7.3%. The BSE capital goods index fell 7%. Areva T&D, Alstom Projects and Punj Lloyd in the capital goods sector fell more than 9.5%.

The BSE metal index fell 6.5% and BSE Power index fell 6.4%. Out of the 30 stocks of the Sensex, prices of 28 stocks declined. Tata Steel, JP Associates, and HDFC shares lost 9% each. Prices of Reliance Infra shares slipped 12.5% to Rs.1,131.

Indian share market weekly roundup (June 29- July 4)

This week, the Indian share market was in a volatile condition. Indices went up and down frequently althrough the week but did not see much gain compared to their last week’s closing. Investors are not taking too much risk as the general budget will be presented on June 6, 2009.



Sensex:

The 30-share Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange gained 1.01% or 148.41 points compared to its closing on June 26, 2009. It ended at 14,913.05 points.

The Sensex observed an intra-week high of 14,955.5 points and a low of 14,355.5 points.

Sensex did not see much change throughout the week. On June 29, Sensex fell 21 points following a rise of 191 points. It closed at 14,785.74 points.

On June 30, 2009 Sensex observed a steep downward slide which resulted into profit booking. It went down by 291 points and closed at 14,493.84 points. Compared to Monday’s closing, it was 1.97% low.

On July 1, 2009 Sensex saw some upward movement as traders bought stocks. Realty, energy and banking stocks were major gainers on Wednesday pushing the Sensex to 14,645.47 points. Compared to previous days closing, Sensex advanced 1.05% to 151.63 points.

On July 2, 2009, the Economic Survey 09 was presented at the parliament which proposed huge reform of the current system but it did not affect the sharemarket.

Sensex rose only 13 points to 14,694.31 points.

The BSE Midcap index gained 0.32% compared to its previous weekly close and the BSE Smallcap index went up 0.42%.

Nifty:

On the other hand, Nifty of the National Stock Exchange gained 1.1% compared to its last week’s closing and ended at 4,424.25 points.

Nifty observed an intra-week high of 4,439.9 points and a low of 4,249.7 points.

On June 29, 2009, Nifty rose 0.35% at 4,390.95 points.

On June 30, 2009, Nifty also observed a downfall of 2.27% ending at 4,291.1 points.

Nifty gained 1.16% or 4,340.9 points on July 1, 2009.

On July 2, 2009, Nifty gained 0.18% to 4,348 points.



Foreign investors:

This week foreign investors bought stocks worth $387 million. In the previous week they bought shares worth $518.5 million.

India share market July 2 2009

The Bombay Stock Exchange had some technical problem which affected the trading session. In the morning session, circuit limit of 100 stocks stopped working. It happened due to a “technical glitch” for three to four hours. Later, BSE removed the circuit filters. Shares of Assam Co. had an upper circuit of Rs.15.31 and lower circuit of Rs.13.19 but due to this technical problem the stock price went up to Rs.77.20 at 3.06pm. In the morning, traders were at a loss looking at the circuit limits. Some traders bought stocks at those prices which were also accepted by the server but after rectifying the problem, nobody could not say what would happen to those transactions. This incident cast a doubt among traders regarding the abilities of the BSE administration.



Sensex opened up at 14,694 points. Immediately, after the Economic Survey of FY 09 was presented at the parliament today, Sensex went to a high of 14,764 points but at the end of the day’s trading session it ended in red as the latest jobless data was released in the U.S. The Sensex saw an intra-day high of 14,764 points and a low of 14,469 points. It closed at 14,658 points. Traders are not buying too much stocks as the time for the first budget is drawing closer.

In terms of trading, BSE was positive as prices of 1459 stocks advancedand 1141 slipped. In total, 2,692 stocks were traded today.



At the BSE metals, realty and pharma stocks observed a price rise. The BSE metal index went up 2% led by Tata Steel, Jai Corp. and SAIL. Prices of these three stocks went up by more than 3.7%. The realty index rose 1.5% and BSE Pharma Index rose 0.8%. After announcing a price hike, oil and gas stocks also surged up. GAIL and ONGC stocks gained more than 7%. However, the BSE capital goods index fell 1% and the auto index fell 0.9%.



At BSE, stocks that observed major gains are:

ONGC rose 7% to Rs 1,126.

Sterlite Industries



Stocks whose prices tumbled are:

BHEL slipped 3 per cent to Rs 2,149.

RIL fell 2.3 per cent to Rs 2,149.



The Nifty at the NSE observed an intra-day high of 4,348 points and a low of 4,289 points. It closed at 4,349 points.

India share market July 1 2009

On July 1, 2009, the Bombay Stock Exchange implemented its quarterly market wide circuit breaker system. Today, investors bought lower level stocks. Realty, auto and bankex were major gainers. The Sensex at the BSE closed at 14645 points. It opened at 14,506 points against its previous close of 14,494 points. It observed an intra-day high of 14727.49 points and a low of 14355.52 points. In terms of overall trade, the market remained in the negative zone as prices of 1319 shares decreased and 1275 advanced on the BSE.



The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange closed at 4342.15 points, an increase of 51.05 points from its opening. It touched an intra-day high of 4362.30 points and a low 4249.70 points.



The BSE Midcap Index went up 1.16% and BSE Smallcap Index went up 0.39%

The BSE Realty Index gained 4.48%, BSE Auto Index gained 1.19% and BSE Bankex went up 1.09%.



The major gainers are:

BPCL 5.8%

DLF 5.52%

Reliance Capital 5.05%

Axis Bank 4.93%

Idea Cellular 4.42%



Companies who saw slump in stock prices today are:

Cipla -2.39%

Hindalco Industries -2.14%

Power Grid -2.01%

NALCO -1.9%

ONGC -1.71%

India share market June 25 2009

Poor weather today affected the Indian share market. For the first time in the last four years there will be below normal rainfall in the monsoon season. This will affect the country’s agricultural sector which could result into poor demand and high food prices. The profit booking is continuing and it is affecting the market. At the last hour of the trade, the market observed losses.

The Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange went down 51.1 points and closed at 4241.85 points; a drop of 1.19%. It observed an intra-day high of 4337.95 points and a low of 4221.15 points.



At NSE the major gainers are:

  • Unitech 6.03%
  • HDFC Bank 3.4%
  • ICICI Bank 2.79%
  • Grasim Industries 2.49%
  • HCL Technologies 2.3%



Companies who observed losses at NSE are:

  • Tata Motors 5.95%
  • Cipla 4.38%
  • Mahindra & Mahindra 3.22%
  • HCL Technologies 3.19%
  • Reliance Power 3.06%



At BSE, share prices of 1411 companies advanced and 1220 declined and 78 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the Sensex of BSE went down 0.53% or 77.11 points at 14,345.62. It observed an intraday high of 14,578.46 points and low of 14,261.14 points. BSE Midcap Index went down 0.2% and BSE Smallcap Index dipped 0.45%.



BSE auto index fell 2.2%, BSE oil and gas index fell 2.1% and power index fell 1.4%. Tata and Escorts shares saw the biggest fall. Each of the companies share prices went down by more than 5%. Maruti Suzuki share prices went down 3.1% to Rs.1,026. Shares of Aban Offshore, Essar Oil and HPCL were big losers.



Realty and Banking stocks observed gains today at BSE. The BSE realty index rose 0.5% and banking index advanced 0.4%.

Indian share market June 22, 2009

On June 22, 2009, Indian share market observed huge losses. Price of shares fell as investors continue profit booking. Moreover, poor performance of the share markets in Europe and America affected the investors. Shares of Reliance Industries observed a steep drop in prices as the company lost the gas distribution case against Reliance Natural Resources. Foreign investors who bought shares of Reliance Industries started to sell them.



Today, the Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) ended at 14,326.22 points. It hit an intraday low of 14269.77 points and high of 14668.40 points. On the other hand, Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed at 4235.25 points. It hit an intra-day low of 4221.90 points and a high of 4352.25 points. Analysts are expecting that Nifty would further fall below 4000 levels in the next four or five trading sessions and started moving upwards from there.



At BSE, indices remained flat and did not see much upward movement. BSE Midcap Index went down 0.57% and BSE Smallcap Index went down 0.33%. BSE Oil &Gas Index fell 3.33%. BSE Metal Index downed 2.38% and BSE Power Index slipped 2.47%. However, BSE FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) Index advanced 0.49%.



At BSE share prices of 1493 companies went down and 1114 companies advanced.
